Get ready for the holidays with handmade ornaments! There’s something about handmade ornaments that really make me smile. I made ornaments every year with my mom as a child and creating this list reminded me of some of those classic ornaments. She still has some of them to hang on her tree! Have you ever made a quilted ornament without sewing? Top your gifts with glitter cookie cutters, make yarn wreaths with your children, add a favorite photo to a felt Polaroid ornament for your best friend…I could go on and on.

There are a million ways to use these and they are all quick projects. Now you just need to set up an ornament party and make some with your friends and family. Frogs, Elephants, Necklaces and Flowerpots from Recycled Buttons and Resin, by Greca. Photos: Courtesy of Greca. Greca is a small design firm from Buenos Aires that makes objects and fashion accessories from recycled buttons and resin. Now, recovering buttons might not seem like much of a merit, but it is when you work right into a buttons factory that discards hundreds of units because they're not good for sale. Put that material with discarded resin from the same factory, and you got yourself a vast amount of plastic that would go into the trash if unrecovered.

LIKE STUMBLEUPON? Greca was founded by Argentine designers Rocio Gonzalez and Lucas Campodonico. We know, nobody likes resin, as it's a material that cannot be recycled, but Greca is already recovering this from the trash since the factory is using it anyway. "Nothing can be perfect and we think using trash as a commodity is already a good point to start. Vintage Button Monogram Pillows - Crafting a Green World. Vintage Published on March 20th, 2009 | by Jackie Hernandez I found an Etsy seller putting her vintage buttons to good use. She makes custom monogramed pillows and wall art with vintage buttons. Peggy of Letter Perfect Designs hand sews each carefully selected button into place. In an interview featured on Hair Bow Diva, Peggy explained what makes her craft unique: I’m trying to be creative and fun with the most basic and utilitarian of household items — the button. This is such an inspiring use of mismatched, vintage, and collected buttons. Go Make Something & Punched Paint Chip Cards. I love playing with paint chips. I did a previous article using paint chips that were stamped with black ink. This time around, I’m punching them with some of the many flower punches I have, because if I’m going to pay a bazillion dollars for a punch, I probably don’t have any money leftover to buy fun papers! Here’s how I made the cards shown above and below: I started with one of the large Behr paint chips from Home Depot.

They’re large enough to make a nice-sized card front. I removed the print from the card using a white Staedtler Mars plastic eraser. The printing on most paint chips can be rubbed away with this eraser, leaving nothing but a slightly duller spot behind. Punch shapes from each colored section. Fold a piece od cardstock in half to create a card.

Apply glue to the back side of the punched paint chip, and press it onto the folded cardstock, applying the edge of the chip along the fold. Trim around the unfolded sides to remove the extra cardstock. Here’s the result: Diy :: using porcelain paint pens. {valentine’s plate} you know i always talk about my next creative endeavor? Make your own silhouette picture. I, like i'm sure most of you, have been drooling over all the custom silhouette pictures of your kids. i wanted to ask for those for christmas, but i wanted shopping money too. well, i am now the proud owner of some cute new clothes so my selfishness won. but.... now i also have some silhouette pictures thanks to my crafty (a.k.a cheap) bum. here's the supplies you'll need: photo frame ($10.00 on sale at joanns) spray adhesive cardstock black paint/paint brush scissors picture of your kid (the hardest part) step 1: take your kids picture. print it (my frame is an 8 x 10 size, so i printed the picture in a 5 x 7 size) i printed it on cardstock as well, so the paper would be thicker. step 2: cut your picture out...being very careful around the sweet little face parts. step 3: paint the cut out picture black. let dry. step 4: i then used my spray adhesive to adhere it to the white background (sidenote--my white background is just the piece of paper that comes with the frame...i just turned it over) and voila:

Simply Vintagegirl Blog & Blog Archive & A Homemade Christmas - #1 - Practical Perpetual Calendar. 23 October 2008 Welcome to the first A Homemade Christmas! This is week One of Ten (you don’t have to enter in each one). I hope you’ll join us in sharing about homemade gifts that you have received or made — past, present, and future! You can click here for the Introductory post. This calendar will last a very long time, which makes it a great gift. Since it is perpetual, it just keeps going. There are lots of things you can do with the idea, and it’s pretty easy to make.

It has a bit of a vintage look to it. Each date is put together with decoupage glue (we use Mod Podge) with the scrapbook paper in the background, and the numbers stuck down on top of that. To make the holes, I took a piece of vellum and cut it out the same size and the background paper. I laid the vellum template on top of each finished date, and marked (with a permanent) the spot where the hole was to be. My wonderful daddy put holes in the tin lids, and cut out the months.
