Become familiar with the natural cycles, heartbeats and rhythms of Earth.
Author: Strix d' Emerys Paula & Gordon Ireland Proprietors Earth Spirit Emporium: Books & Stuff "Where Olde Traditions meet the New Age" There are thirteen Lunar months in the year, the Full Moon is near the mid point of the Lunar Month.
January Moon This moon is also known as Ice Moon, Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, and Cold Moon. This moon was said to warn hunters of falling ice from the trees. This is a time for introspection.
Why does the Moon have phases? The Moon has phases because it orbits Earth, which causes the portion we see illuminated to change. The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit Earth, but the lunar phase cycle (from new Moon to new Moon) is 29.5 days. The Moon spends the extra 2.2 days "catching up" because Earth travels about 45 million miles around the Sun during the time the Moon completes one orbit around Earth. At the new Moon phase, the Moon is so close to the Sun in the sky that none of the side facing Earth is illuminated (position 1 in illustration). In other words, the Moon is between Earth and Sun.
There is so much to learn and remember from animals about how to stay in rhythm with nature.
This moon phases calendar tool or moon schedule is an easy way to find out the lunar phase for any given month. Simply select a month and year, and click "Go", and it will show you what the moon will look like for any day that month. The internal phase calculator is very accurate, but the images are approximations.
