A Whole New Mind. “The last few decades have belonged to a certain kind of person with a certain kind of mind — computer programmers who could crank code, lawyers who could craft contracts, MBAs who could crunch numbers. But the keys to the kingdom are changing hands.” T his starts and sets the tone for the thought-provoking best-seller A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink . In an easy-to-read way, Dan outlines the changes that are underway, as well as how to develop ourselves in order to thrive in this new era. Half-a-Mind Is Not Enough A Whole New Mind is based extensively on the classic left/right brain metaphor — and I must say it’s a very useful one in making the point of the book. Connectome. White matter tracts within a human brain, as visualized by MRItractography.
A connectome is a comprehensive map of neural connections in the brain, and may be thought of as its "wiring diagram". More broadly, a connectome would include the mapping of all neural connections within an organism's nervous system. The production and study of connectomes, known as connectomics, may range in scale from a detailed map of the full set of neurons and synapses within part or all of the nervous system of an organism to a macro scale description of the functional and structural connectivity between all cortical areas and subcortical structures. The term "connectome" is used primarily in scientific efforts to capture, map, and understand the organization of neural interactions within the brain. Research has successfully constructed the full connectome of one animal: the roundworm C. elegans (White et al., 1986, Varshney et al., 2011).
PLASTICIDAD NEURONAL. A Neuroscientist's Quest to Reverse Engineer the Human Brain. What makes us who we are?
Where is our personal history recorded, or our hopes? What explains autism or schiziphrenia or remarkable genius? Sebastian Seung argues that it’s all in the connections our neurons make. In his new book, Connectome , he argues that technology has now reached a point where it is conceivable to start mapping at least portions of the connectome. It’s a daunting task, he says, but without it, neuroscience will be stuck. Cook: You argue in your book that neuroscience has a fundamental problem. Seung: Most people are familiar with the regional approach to neuroscience: divide the brain into regions such as the "left brain" and "frontal lobe," and figure out what each region does.
An obvious solution is to understand a region by subdividing it into neurons, and figure out how the neurons work together to perform the region's function. Cook: What made you think that there is another way?

These personality traits are usually stable over time and result in specific behaviors in an individual. Character strengths are the positive traits that underlie good behavior and are displayed through one’s emotions, cognitions, and behavior. As opposed to the personality trait of extroversion that describes an individual who is social, outgoing, and assertive, the character strength of leadership describes an individual who effectively organizes activities and makes sure that tasks are completed. Furthermore, character strengths, unlike personality traits, only include positive behavior traits of the individual.
For example, an extroverted person may be aggressive or critical of others while an individual possessing the leadership strength is appropriately assertive and encouraging of others despite their setbacks. References. Www/Portals/2/VIAPROSAMPLE.pdf.

The discussion of character strengths, or virtues, features prominently in the literature of the world's wisdom traditions. In recent years, however, positive psychologists have brought the discussion of virtues to the domain of science. In this article we'll take a look at the character strengths.
We'll look at three main areas: The 24 major character strengths positive psychologists identify How to identify YOUR strengths How to use your strengths Be sure to check out my page on positive psychology if you'd like more information about the research behind these findings.
