Julia is a food writer, cook and an Italian teacher - one her favourite pastimes is making pasta by hand, "The repetitive action of cutting, rolling and flicking gives me time to think clearly. Baked cheesecake with honey, ricotta and a hint of thyme - ABC Life

It's simple to make, but it does need time as it's baked low and slow to prevent cracks and create lightness. It's filled with a ricotta interior that's flavoured with little more than honey and lemon zest, giving it a subtle sweetness. A touch of fresh thyme also makes the crust extra special. Tips: Cream cheese: Use cream cheese that comes in a block, not a tub, which has air pre-whipped into it.

Probably all of the above. Zuni call it simply “bread salad” (sounds immediately like something I can get behind). Moist little almond & berry cakes — Belinda Jeffery. These little cakes have a delicate flavour, accentuated by tangy bursts of raspberry or blueberry (in season, halved pitted cherries are really lovely too); however, sometimes I just leave them plain and serve them with poached or roasted fruit and a scoop of softly whipped cream or ice-cream for a very easy, but totally scrumptious, dessert.

Growing marigolds and nasturtiums in your vegetable garden - essential for any organic garden - My Food Garden. Growing marigolds and nasturtiums in your vegetable garden helps control insects, adds beauty and is a tasty and healthy addition to your dinner plate. I have used them in my food gardens for many years.
