Like a Candle in the Tin... Project 16 Week 20 – Newspaper Basket. As soon as I spotted this project on the Nifty Thrifty Things blog I knew I had to try it.
I dreamt of making big baskets for fabric, small baskets for my jewelry, and on and on. And then I tried it. Lets just say this project has a special place in my heart right now because there were a good 30 minutes last night when I wasn’t sure it would make it out of the hot mess stage! You all know the one, where the project in your hand looks so different from the one in the tutorial, and you’re not quite sure what went wrong but you know that somewhere along the way that easy sounding tutorial turned into your current nightmare. Well, my basket made it, thanks to a whole lot of paper clips and some deep breaths. Make and share step-by-step craft tutorials.

Tutorial ~ Waterproof Park Blanket. It’s officially park weather…hooray!
I have mentioned that I like to get to the park in the morning before the crowd shows up and before the slides get too hot for little tushes. But there is one drawback. The grass is always on the damp side, so I whipped up a waterproof park blanket to keep our britches from getting soggy. This would work great for a beach blanket too, the sand wouldn’t stick to the bottom. Make Your Own Picnic Blanket. Last month i bought lauren a set of “the family creative workshop” books for her birthday. we’ve been having a blast learning all sorts of new things as we make our way through the incredible variety of projects collected in the volumes. one section we were particularly excited to explore was all about knots, which we’ve long admired both for their usefulness and their beauty. this project is based on a “carrick bend” and is great for creating trivets and placemats, but you could just as easily hang it on your wall to be admired for its decorative charm. have fun!

Truth is, I’m a morbid sort of gal, and I really like my bits of morbid to be anatomically accurate, and this idea had absolutely nothing to do with the darkening season. But I’m posting it around Halloween, so if you need some seasonally-appropriate shoes, I’ve got your back. First, you’ll need some paint-able shoes. Domesticali. Origami wreath tutorial - Domesticali. A little paper ornament - simple to make, perfect for popping inside a Christmas Card.
Want to have a go? I promised a tutorial, so here's what to do. You'll need to begin with a rectangle of paper 4cm wide by 8 cm long. Choose paper with a bit of body - really lightweight stuff won't hold the folds as well or appear 3 dimensional when finished. I'm using some nice old sheet music. Fold your rectangle in half lengthwise ( keep the prettier side out if your paper is only patterned on one side) to give you a folded strip 8cm by 2cm.
DIY: Make Natural Non Toxic Dye – Crafting a Green World. This week I have been spending a good deal of time in the kitchen, cooking up natural dyes. I am actually surprised that after 7 years of art in college I had never learned to make paints, toxic or non toxic. But after reading Autumn’s post about how to make your own milk paint, I got to thinking even deeper into how to make pigments since the colored pigment can be as toxic as the binder. What I found out was a creative revelation that I can not stop cooking up! Recycled Crafts - Free projects and DIY gift ideas from Craftbits.com.
