VickiHartman "I see the television as an opportunity to make a subtle, subversive comment on our passive, consumer culture," says artist Vicki Hartman. "Television screens are an opportunity to make a positive comment through media.

For example: what could our TVs tell us that would be helpful and reaffirming? " Hartman creates each piece with the magic of the mundane in mind. "Ordinary environments are my source of inspiration. How people create homes has captured me since I was a child," she says. "What we choose to save and what we choose to get rid of, what creates comfort and safety, what is sentimental, and what is a symbol of success. Hartman currently works as a full time studio potter from her home in Rochester, New York, where she lives with her husband and two children. I'm afraid I can't vouch for its authenticity, tell you where it came from, who compiled the list, who Kevin Harris is, or anything like that. Still, the quotes are interesting and enlightening.] "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction. Everybody is a comedian these days, and the Internet has given us all an enormous stage. Maybe the best example is a supposedly comedy-free site like Amazon.com. The deal is, anybody can write a review, on any product, whether they have bought it or not. So it's just a matter of finding a baffling/ridiculous/useless product and watching the Internet's sarcasm run wild.

For instance, just check out the reviews for ... The "Guardian Angel" Acupuncture Device Link Yeah, I know, sex toy jokes, right? Bizarrely so: By the way, the product description claims it's a Korean acupressure device. All right, I guess there was room for at least one good sex toy joke. By Steve Li Dieting is not easy.

If it were, we would probably all be thin. Since we are not, here are some tips that successful people use to lose weight so that others can benefit, too. Okay, for many people this is a big problem. To begin with, you should drink a glass of water in the morning first thing, before you eat. If you really cannot bear the taste of water, try using a water purifying pitcher or filter. Check out flavored waters on the market, too. Do not skip breakfast. Eating breakfast is not only good for overall weight loss, it will help you stay on track with your diet the rest of the day. You can always keep a couple of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge or some high-fiber, low starch fruit around.

This can be one of the hardest adjustments to make. Just like eating breakfast will increase your metabolism, so will eating more often. Blog Archive & 15 Funniest Wrong Number Texts of 2011 - StumbleUpon. Miharu Matsunaga: Ten-ten. Using thousands of meticulously painted dots (“ten-ten” in Japanese) designer and photographer Miharu Matsunaga has been exploring the interconnectedness of people and places in these two recently completed projects. The first, a series of mottled portraits was completed as part of her graduate work at Tama Art University.

The delicate white dots are meant as a visual display of the often neglected and forgotten interconnectedness between “family, parents, sister, friend, man, woman, adult, baby, race,” and people of different languages. Matsunaga continues this organic, dotted exploration in Ten-ten wherein the dots are used to cover interior walls, vehicles, and other objects. Stunning work. (via spoon and tamago) Carbon Sink: What Goes Around Comes Around. A Controversial Installation at the University of Wyoming. Carbon Sink is a controversial new installation at the University of Wyoming by British artist Chris Drury. The sculpture, a 36-foot spiral of logs morphing into charred coal, is constructed from trees that have died from skyrocketing beetle infestations across the western United States.

The beetles population is usually tempered by cooler weather, but as global temperatures have grown steadily warmer due to climate change caused from the burning of fossil fuels and, ahem, coal, the insects have flourished resulting in decimated forests. Sounds like the perfect message for an art installation to me. However lawmakers in this coal mining state aren’t happy and veiled threats have been made to potentially cut funding to the university. For now the school is standing by Drury saying they support his artwork while not necessarily endorsing its message. (via lustik and climate adaptation) Julia Feld. (click images for detail) For the better part of three decades multidisciplinary artist Guy Laramee has worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Among his sculptural works are two incredible series of carved book landscapes and structures entitled Biblios and The Great Wall, where the dense pages of old books are excavated to reveal serene mountains, plateaus, and ancient structures. Of these works he says: So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes.

Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Laramee’s next show will be in April of 2012 at the Galerie d’Art d’Outremont in Montreal. - StumbleUpon. 18 Absolutely Astounding Street Arts by MTO - SocialHype - StumbleUpon.
