Like this young man in Kenya:
http://www.oswash.org/ The open source washing machine project aims to rethink the way we wash clothes around the world, in accordance with economical, sociological, cultural and environemental aspects. Most of the people in this planet, mostly women, wash clothes by hand in harsh conditions related to poverty, lack of sanitation, water or energy. The project is born in spring 2008 during an Open Source Hardware workshop for artists in Craslab Paris : the Freeduino board is a low-cost Open Source Hardware environnement created to replace system managers for sensors, actuators or data acquisition in many devices. This electronic board is mostly used by artists, designers, architects…

Timbuktu Chronicles

CP-Africa: When did the site launch and what inspired you to launch Hotels.com.ng? Mark Essien : We launched Hotels.com.ng at the end of January 2012. What inspired me to start the site was not directly a passion for the hotel industry , but rather the observation that there is strong demand for technology products in Africa now, and that this demand is only going to grow. The South Africans are moving aggressively into the West African internet space , and I felt that this was a good time to also enter the market. After analysing various market segments, this particular idea was viable and doable. http://timbuktuchronicles.blogspot.com/

Bricolabs shared network — Bricolabs

Bricolabs is a translocal, intraregional network that regards nationally determined cultural policies for 'new media' as attempts to dominate, rationalise, claim and own practices that exist by nature of being between and outside and beyond such frameworks. It is a distributed network for global and local development of generic infrastructures incrementally developed by communities. Bricolabs investigates the new loop of open content, software and hardware for community applications , bringing people together with new technologies and distributed connectivity, unlike the dominant focus of the IT industry on security, surveillance and on the monopoly of information and infrastructures. To keep up with the various blogs mantained by people around the bricolabs network, you can have a look at planet bricolabs or planet dyne headlines here. http://bricolabs.net/
