Building a site that incorporates interactivity, allows user-generated content, and perhaps also includes e-commerce doesn't come cheap from anyone who knows what they are doing. As a rule, a $50,000 to $100,000 budget can cover the creation of a simple multimedia microsite that becomes the center of an online community. A high-yield, highly targeted blog advertising campaign to kick off and support the program will cost an additional $25,000 to $100,000 a month. 2. . • 4,273 Internet marketers • 1,652 social media marketers • 513 social media consultants • 272 social media strategists • 180 social media experts • 98 social media gurus 3. 4. 5.

Every story has a who, what, where, when, and why - but the event-driven nature of the social Web may be putting such a premium on broadcasting about what we're doing, that software designed to help us answer important questions like who and why are at risk of being neglected. Reflecting on the human condition was once a popular past-time. A lot of people used to read poetry, as you may have heard. It may not be the Internet's fault that we're becoming less introspective - in fact the huge amount of activity data we're sharing online offers incredible opportunities for reflection, and for learning more about ourselves.

It seems quite likely that we're going to miss those opportunities because our software is focused entirely on doing (and advertising) instead of on helping us think as much as it could. The first version of the web was a navigable network of interconnected pages.

Research. Douglas-Rushkoff. Education. Consumers. Making Social Media Economically Viable, Part 1 « Emerging Technologies Librarian. With the economy downturn locally, nationally, and globally, one of the things I’ve been hearing is, “Oh, we need to rebuild those industries that are failing so people can get back the jobs they’ve always done,” with “we” usually being someone else. I am the furthest thing from any kind of economic expert, more a distant dabbler in the concepts. Still, the idea of trying to force success out of something that has already failed hasn’t made sense to me. I was excited to hear from a few social media/Enterprise 2.0 advocates after my post last week. Special thanks to Jon Husband of Wirearchy, who not only confirmed that he also has a revolutionary agenda behind his networked models of organizing but who also sent me some of his own work on the subject.

I am excited to be finding more colleagues who share the vision of real social change in organizations behind these relationship technology innovations. As I geared up over the weekend to start blogging about social change and social media, I was preparing to write more about my concern that what proponents of Enterprise 2.0/Social Business are suggesting is not transformational enough. However, we need also to consider that not only are these tools and structures not as revolutionary as they could be — some of these changes aren't even as revolutionary as we already assume they are. People assume that: 1. 2. Neither of these assumptions is true.

The more you lie, the easier it gets - New Scientist (Belgium study) Our brains are naturally better at telling the truth than lying, but repeated lying can overcome our tendency for veracity, making subsequent lying easier – and possibly undetectable. Neuroimaging studies have shown that people's brains show considerably more activity when they are lying than when they are not, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, suggesting that lying requires extra cognitive control and inhibition of truth-telling. Lying also takes measurably longer than telling the truth. To test whether the brain's so-called "dominant truth response" can be changed, Bruno Verschuere of Ghent University in Ghent, Belgium, and colleagues studied three groups of students.

True or false? The students were first asked to provide a written report about their daily activities. Each student was then questioned about these activities, and asked to either lie or tell the truth in their answers. Interspersed with these questions were "filler" questions on a new topic.
