News Events Members. 6 Clever Tricks for Social Media Managers. Even if you're the ultimate hybrid project manager/content creator and community-engager, reality is, you'll probably develop Community Manager Multi-Personality Disorder (CMMPD)* at least once in your career. *We totally made this up. In my years managing communities for companies ranging from teeny startups to global soda and makeup brands, I learned one thing very quickly: Establishing systems and using the right tools early on can save your sanity (and your laptop’s RAM).

Here are six tips and tricks in my medicine cabinet for achieving social media vitality. 1. Pain: So many accounts, so few browsers, so slow Internet speed. Every day, we log in to our Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr accounts, our work email, Google Drive and our internal communities, not to mention those of all our clients. Remedy: Behold, Chrome profiles. 2. Remedy: Download FoundApp. 3. Remedy: With IFTTT (If This Then That), you can literally put the Internet to work for you. 4. 5. 6. Q&A: How Kaplan’s TechStars ed tech accelerator plans to get to the head of the class. TechStars is a leader among general tech startup incubators, but can it work its magic in ed tech?

Earlier this year, education giant Kaplan announced a new EdTech Accelerator powered by TechStars. But it’s hardly the only one. In the past few months, no less than five accelerators have launched offering ed tech entrepreneurs money, mentors and a faster track to growth. Earlier this month, the program announced that it had brought on Don Burton, a serial entrepreneur and investor with a deep background in for-profit education, to serve as the accelerator’s managing director. Here’s a (lightly edited) transcript of our conversation: GigaOM: Ed tech accelerators are popping up all over the place — why do you think now is an interesting time to be a part of one? Burton: We’re at the very beginning of major change. What’s really exciting is now we’re thinking of new ways of imagining what learning can look like. Maybe a lot of startups will get into accelerators because there are so many.

Café McMullen: Technology and Education. It's a hot topic these days: Teacher vs. Computers, Group learning vs. individual learning. Is it possible to be for all of it? Do we have to pick sides in this polarizing debate? Recently Nicholas Negroponte, founder of One Laptop Per Child, embarked on a new project. His organization dropped off pre-loaded tablets to a remote village in Ethiopia. These children had no previous exposure to any schooling, written language, or any sort of printed material. The group of 20, 5 year olds all taught themselves basic reading and writing. Are teachers and classrooms an archaic view of education? Dr. Education in America has become a very hot topic. As we venture into the vast future of education and technology I would like to see a strong emphasis placed on the important human traits of learning. Braingenie.
