Strengthening the ability of individuals, communities and nations to adapt to climate change, move towards low-carbon societies, improve understanding of climate science, and raise public awareness about the Earth's changing climate. The globally averaged mixing ratios of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) reached new heights in 2009. These values are greater than those in pre-industrial times (before 1750) by 38 per cent, 158 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively.

The Peacebuidling Commission (PBC) is an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace efforts in countries emerging from conflict, and is a key addition to the capacity of the International Community in the broad peace agenda. The Peacebuilding Commission plays a unique role in (1) bringing together all of the relevant actors, including international donors, the international financial institutions, national governments, troop contributing countries; (2) marshalling resources and (3) advising on and proposing integrated strategies for post-conflict peacebuilding and recovery and where appropriate, highlighting any gaps that threaten to undermine peace.
