Maxwell.

Apresentamos alguns desses trabalhos evidenciando duas abordagens artísticas.

Maxwell. Electronic Thaumaturgy. This page contains some reflections on my work as a digital and electronic occultist, which is to say that I express magic and other occult subjects through electronic and digital media in much the same way as a digital or electronic artist does with their visual or performance art.

Electronic Thaumaturgy

Sometimes I call it electronic thaumaturgy… In the 16th century, the word thaumaturgy entered the English language meaning miraculous or magical powers. The word was first anglicized and used in the magical sense in John Dee‘s book Mathematicall Praeface to Euclid’s Elements (1570). He mentions an “art mathematical” called “thaumaturgy… which giveth certain order to make strange works, of the sense to be perceived and of men greatly to be wondered at.”In Dee’s time, “the Mathematicks” referred not merely to the abstract computations associated with the term today, but to physical mechanical devices which employed mathematical principles in their design.

A Crazy Oculus Rift Hack Lets Men and Women Swap Bodies. BeAnotherLab is using the Oculus Rift to experiment with embodiment. The great promise of the Oculus Rift headset the chance to inhabit fantastic new worlds. A group of researchers in Barcelona are already using it for something even more radical: inhabiting new bodies. BeAnotherLab, an interdisciplinary group of students at the University Pompeu Fabra, in Barcelona, has relied on an early version of Oculus Rift as part of an on-going research project called “The Machine To Be Another.”

The concept is just what the name suggests. An early experiment let participants experience the creative process through someone else’s eyes, in real time. Here’s how it works. The effect, says Philippe Bertrand, a Digital Arts student and co-founder of the group, is profound. Over the last several months, the group has found a diverse group of researchers interested in their “embodiment experience platform,” from artists to therapists to anthropologists. Postsecular. Does Digital Communication Affect Spirituality? The Digitalnun In 2003, when Sister Catherine Wybourne’s Digitalnun helped form a community of Benedictine nuns in Oxfordshire, England, she knew they could not afford to pursue the order’s mission of hospitality.

Based in rented quarters with little financial support, Wybourne and her sisters had neither the space nor the resources to welcome seekers, strangers and others in need. And to be handed such a panoramic disclosure of the beastly mess we’re now in was entirely unexpected ! But as we listened to his intervention live-streamed at #SXSW14, we began to realize why he’s only capable of giving us HALF of the epic Net Problem. If even that… Aside from all the obvious bits that we need to know about defending our rights, free speech, reclaiming privacy, and pushing back on the grisly abuses of a control society coup in the information-economy age, what we won’t get from a patriotic techie defector’s analysis is that our future is NOT the future of the Internet. But why think so linear ?! This perspective we are about to share will hardly be possible in a blog post, but it’s a start… [ 2Bcont ] XLt. Concerning the Spiritual in Cyberspace. Concerning the Spiritual in Cyberspace

This paper looks the spiritual in 20th century art and science as the basis for examining the spiritual implications in cyberspace, itself the outgrowth of art and science. This is followed by a discussion of the virtual worlds of William Gibson and Frank Tipler. Index.
