38 more days…but who’s counting?!

{Please go back and reread that statement in your best Napoleon Dynamite heck yes voice. So much better.} So, it’s Tuesday! Already! For some reason, my county extended our Spring Break to include yesterday (PTL!) Sigh. Spring Break is OVER, the Cats *won* (yes, I’m a UK grad for those you who asked), and most of us can officially say that school is out next month. Mrs. Renz's 4th Grade Class. ♥Fern Smith's Classroom Ideas!♥: Organization ~ Read Alouds By Month & Author!

It is the difference between a great teacher and an excellent teacher because you are not wasting your time & energy looking for things! Here is how I store my Read Alouds & I hope my system helps you too! Some people have great big closets and/or lots of shelves. When I first started teaching I wasted so much time trying to find my own personal books in the classroom library. My pictures do not show that many books because I've "LEFT" teaching three times {never say never} and every time I would leave I would have a massive classroom garage sale! OK~Stop Laughing! I took the classes, passed the tests and went on interviews. Steps: Step into 2nd Grade with Mrs. Lemons. My Classroom. Teacher Tips on a Snow Day.

Managment Monday (Tuesday!) & other Randomness

Doing my delay dance right now! PA is super cold, so we have a 2 hour delay again tomorrow. We have state testing in about a month and we've had 6 snow days and TONS of delays. Starting to feel the PSSA push. Anyway....here are just a few things that we have going on... Since I started teaching, I've been trying to find a way to store the task cards and other games/cards that I've made. Third grade is the big year to start to learn the multiplication facts in our district. The infamous Kiss Your Brain jar that I got from some terrific blog. A Famous American Paper Bag Book

I'm finally back with a school related post! Are you all as crazy busy as I am? You can feel the tension build as we are getting closer to state testing time. If you're like me you're feeling totally optimistic that all your kiddos are going to pass with flying colors! It's kind of like this: HAH!

Ok, so off my soapbox and onto a post on Famous Americans and a paper bag book. There are certain famous Americans we focus on and certain points students need to know about each. Then in the bag it goes. We also focused on vocabulary that related to this unit. We cut these apart and they are ready to be worked with. We store the word cards in a ziplock snack bag and then it goes in the last empty page of our book. All ready to go home for practice and review! We will be pulling this out again next month in preparation for the SOL test.

Interested in the materials to make this with your students? You can find this file at my TPT store. Organization. Welcome!

Here is the view of our first grade hallway at Wayland Bonds Elementary! This year we decided to go with a camping theme. We made our doorways look like log cabins by making logs out of butcher paper. We all bought a pine tree from Mardels. I also had my mom sew red and white checker curtains for each of our windows. Here is the camping welcome sign as you enter the first grade hallway. We each took laminated scrapbook paper and glued it to the wall with a cloths pin.

Preparing for Testing...How Do You Do It?

Fun Photo Bookmarks. Once again, it's thanks to Pinterest that I was able to do a fun little project with my kids.

Fun Photo Bookmarks

Several weeks ago, Pinterest led me to these awesome bookmarks at Creative Family Moments. So easy, so fun and so perfect for my book-loving kids. However, like so many of my pins, I had the idea there ready and waiting for the right opportunity to use it. When it was my daughter's turn to host her book club and we decided to do the poems of Shel Silverstein , I remembered the bookmarks and knew they be perfect. . ~ it goes right along with our fun bookmarks. Check them out...
