Waking up smooth-ie | dailymile community blog. I used to be a morning person. And by morning I mean pre-pre dawn. I would wake up at 4:30 every day for a 5-6am run along Ocean Beach, San Francisco. Why did I do this? Because 1: I have problems with insomnia, 2: it’s good for training and the metabolism, and 3: when I was 20 I acted like I was 35. These morning runs were a part of my schedule for about two years.

Then one day I met someone who introduced me to evening runs. It took some adjusting, but after a few years of mixing the two, I became a full blown post-work/evening runner. For a while I relished the extra hour of sleep, but lately, I’ve been craving that feeling that only a morning run can give you. To solve a problem like this, I like to trick myself. Loaded Baked Potato Soup Recipe. Soups are definitely a highlight in the winter. They are comforting, warming and so good. I like to make baked potato soup as it really reminds me of eating a baked potato as a side in the summer. If you have potatoes that need to be cooked and have no idea what you are going to make with them, definitely give this loaded baked potato soup recipe a try. Serve with a sandwich like Rachael Ray’s Chicken Club Sliders (made indoors) or alone as it is very filling. This is not one bit healthy, but that is okay. You’ll enjoy the chunkiness of the potatoes, mild taste of bacon and the creaminess of the soup. You may have noticed I share a lot of Rice Krispies Treats, especially around the holiday. Can you blame me though? They’re sweet, gooey and oh-so-good! And these red velvet treats are to die for! Had it not been for my kiddos little sweet happy fingers, I wouldn’t have found the restraint to not eat them all. If you’re making these to just eat, no need to get fancy but if you’re making them for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to check out Wilton’s selection of cookie cutters.

They have this really nice set of heart shaped cutters that includes 4 different sizes and 2 of them with scalloped edges that would be great for fancy shaped cookies. In a small jelly roll pan you can press the treats thin enough to cut with the heart shaped cutters. With a piping bag (or plastic sandwich bag) you can frost these with pretty designs in a cream cheese frosting that makes them even sweeter.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 Pepperoni Garlic Knots I’ve been wanting to try my hand at pepperoni garlic knots ever since tasting a version at Jersey Joe’s Pizzeria. It’s such a simple idea, but adding pepperoni to garlic knots really raise them to a whole new level. I couldn’t quite figure out how to make the spiral design of the ones I previously ate. Below is a picture of the ones I got at the pizzeria.

These tasted pretty good. Garlic knots are delicious, but pepperoni garlic knots are even better. Rainbow Cake in a Jar. I’ve always had a penchant for sunshine in a jar. Doesn’t the very phrase itself, “sunshine in a jar,” roll off your tongue and fill your mouth with magic? While I’ve never yet found myself a sunshine in a jar, I think we may have just concocted it in our kitchen tonight. In this simple recipe, a basic white cake is turned into a slew of bright colors, baked to perfection, then topped with a creamy white frosting.

Cakes baked in jars can be topped with traditional metal canning lids and stored in the fridge for up to five days. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip It’s time for a little confession. I realize this may get me shunned (especially in my hometown of Pittsburgh!) , but….I don’t like football. I don’t like to watch it, I never liked playing football with my friends, I don’t even like playing catch with a football. If there was one thing Mike could change about me, I’m pretty sure this would be it. That being said, I will watch the Superbowl. I like the party atmosphere, I like that the Steelers are playing, but most of all, I like the food. I saw this recipe on Jessica’s blog and made it the very next day.

*Note: Jessica also has variations of this dip on her blog. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip Ingredients:1/2 cup butter 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 8-ounce block of cream cheese, softened 3/4 to 1 cup powdered sugar (*to taste) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup mini chocolate chips, plus extra for sprinklingDirections:In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Now you're cooking with comics.
