A bit of green :: Crafts :: Plastic Cup Lamp. Now that my university is closed for winter holidays, I finally have more free time to do all the crafty things I’ve been wanting to. One of these is a lamp made from plastic cups I’ve seen at taf, the art foundation, in the Monastiraki region in the center of Athens. When I first saw it at taf, I was amazed; I looked closely and I couldn’t believe my eyes!

The object itself is so peculiar, modern and alien-like it could be in any design exhibition. With my best friend’s birthday coming up, I decided to make it myself and give it to her as a gift. It turns out it was the easiest craft I’ve even done, the epitome of DIY objects! Disclaimer: There have been some concerns about the safety of this construction (see the comment of user “when” below for example). I only needed a couple of things: 200-250 large plastic cups (recyclable, at least )600-700 staplesa staplera lamp socket, lamp cord and plug – mine came from a broken IKEA lamp! That’s all you will need. …to this! You might also like: Crazy paper thing. 21 Amazing Examples Of Shadow Art: Pics, Videos, Links, News. 10 Best Ad Campaigns "Life's too short for the wrong job".

Soap Flakes Soap Blocks instead of liquid Soaps Today, most of the soap we use is liquid soap, which contains a lot of water. Block soap instead is more concentrated and therefore has some ecological benefits: You don’t transport unnecessary water around. In place of plastic bottles you can simply use paper for packaging. The solid blocks can easily be piled and allow a greater space efficiency in a truck. But what about the usage of soap bars? Convertible Bed Couch: Sweet Transforming Sofa Design.

Move over hide-a-bed, pull-out couch-beds: get stuffed. The Doc is a simply named convertible sofa that expands into not one but two beds in one: a pair of bunk beds as simple and elegant as the name would suggest. With a variety of color styles and textures this makes a great couch even without the added bonus of being a brilliant piece of transforming furniture. The transformation process, as these images suggest, is a relatively simple one. The end result looks just as good as a couch in terms of being a potential default configuration – not something one normally sees with convertible furniture in general, let alone fold-out beds in particular.

The finished bunk-bed configuration can be mono-tone or duo-tone depending upon the sheets chosen and comes complete with a safety bar and step ladder for the upstairs sleeper. 97 Yr Old Physician's Formula For Life. Cooking on a Himalayan Salt Plate. How would you like a piece of cookware that is 300 million years old? These Himalayan Salt Plates are cut from ancient salt deposits and are considered the purest form of salt.

They are becoming very popular right now to cook on and for good reason - they impart a rich flavor to anything you cook on them and not just a salty flavor. The plates contain mineral deposits that add a richness that you can't get with just salt. There are a few ways you can use your salt plates. You can either cook on them, chill them, or serve foods on them at room temperature. I have done all three and I suggest that if you find you like doing that, buy two salt plates - one to keep "pretty" for serving cold foods and one on which to cook. Cooking on a salt plate will eventually change the appearance of the plate and discolor it, so having one that is reserved just for serving is kind of nice.

Step-by-Step: Amazing Spiced Chai Concentrate – Tasty Kitchen Blog. Warm spices, strong tea and steamed milk swirling around in my tummy make chai lattes a favorite during the winter months. It warms me from the inside out in a way that puts coffee and tea to shame. Unfortunately, the chai concentrate from certain coffee chains is too sweet. But there is something better. It never occurred to me to make my own chai. (Certainly it must be too hard.) But when I saw this recipe from thecatnipcat for this Amazing Spiced Chai Concentrate, something about the whole thing seemed doable. If I had known how easy it was, I would have started making my own years ago. Here are the ingredients you’ll need: cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, star anise, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg, orange zest, tea bags, brown sugar, honey, and vanilla. Start by bringing 4 1/2 cups water to the boil on the stove. Then you need some orange zest. The recipe says to use a piece of ginger.

Once the water has come to a boil, remove the pot from the heat and add the tea bags. Description Ingredients. Wire & Paper. Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries. Call me easily amused, but these little torch-topped cupcakes delight me. Besides being a cute novelty item for a party, I think they would add a little drama to the end of a romantic meal. I've been looking for something different to serve for Valentine's dessert, and this is definitely different.

The strawberries are hollowed out and filled with a bit of liquor, then ignited with a match. For the cake portion, I chose a One Bowl Chocolate Cupcake recipe because 1. it's quick 2. it is easy, and 3. it fits my prerequisite for a light ending on date night. I should say, a light ending provided you don't eat too many. The cakes are just sweet enough, and have a light, fluffy crumb - the perfect vehicle for rich chocolate buttercream.

Notes for flaming strawberries:Any alcohol below 80 proof will not ignite well. Shaina made a margarita version of this on Babble Food. Makes » how to make butter. Homemade butter is easy, relatively quick to make and amazingly delicious. If it cost less than buying butter at the grocery store, it would be too good to be true, which is why this is not the case. All things considered, though, I still think it’s well worth it. This stuff is precious, so I think the best use of it is not in baking, but rather, on top of freshly baked, still warm, bread, muffins or crumpets. Are you ready for this? It’s intense. We begin with cream. Next, get a container with a tight-fitting screw-on lid that will not spurt cream all over your kitchen when you shake it vigorously.

Begin shaking the container up and down in a rhythmic pattern. The next 3 minutes will feel like you’re shaking a brick. All of a sudden, within just a few shakes, the jar will begin going “shuk shuk shuk” and you’ll be able to feel the butter separating from the buttermilk. After that, let the faucet water get as cold as it gets, then fill the jar to just under the top of the butter.

Wanderfly | Spark Your Journey. Neil Pasricha: The 3 A's of awesome. Colorado makes it legal for homeowners to harvest rainwater. In the eyes of the law, Karl Hanzel was a water thief. Colorado homeowners who captured and stored water that fell onto their own roofs were considered to be stealing because that water technically belonged to the owners of streams and aquifers beneath the homeowners’ properties.

If caught, they faced fines up to $500 a day. Luckily for Hanzel and other homeowners, a change in Colorado law legalizes this kind of water collection. But homeowners in other states who just want to use less tap water still face legal barriers. In the Southwest, one of the fastest growing regions in the country, water is a precious commodity – one that people are willing to fight over.

Water laws, which were created in the 1800s, give those who were first in line for water rights precedence over the rest of the population. "I struggle to understand the argument for these laws. Pope believes it’s time that water laws were updated. "It needs to be based on need — it needs to be based on proper use of water. World's First Ban on Bottled Water. SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian town pulled all bottled water from its shelves Saturday and replaced it with refillable bottles in what is believed to be a world-first ban.

Hundreds of people marched through the picturesque rural town of Bundanoon to mark the first day of its bottled water ban by unveiling a series of new public drinking fountains, said campaign spokesman John Dee. Shopkeepers ceremoniously removed the last bottles of water from their shelves and replaced them with reusable bottles that can be filled from fountains inside the town's shops or at water stations in the street. "Every bottle today was taken off the shelf and out of the fridges so you can only now buy refillable bottles in shops in Bundanoon," Dee told AFP. The tiny town, two hours south of Sydney, voted in July to ban bottled water after a drinks company moved to tap into a local aquifer for its bottled water business. The cash savings only made the project more compelling, he added.
