London Street Map // modern reference map of streets and cycle routes

This detailed, street-level map’s colourful graphic style and stunning print quality make it a beautiful point of reference for the home or office. The map is 1.3m x 1m in size and displays Richmond Park to the Olympics development site, (west to east) and Muswell Hill to Dulwich (north to south). Roads are coloured to highlight signed cycling routes, quieter routes (recommended by other cyclists), greenways through parks and canals and off-carriageway alternatives to busy roads. Additional details include a basic layout for the London Olympics site and illustrations depicting selected London landmarks. Printing: This map is printed using a lithographic printing process. This works like a mechanised version of traditional screen-printing. http://www.futuremaps.co.uk/london-wall-map/london-street-map1

Fun House: Apartment in Juan-les-Pins by UdA Architetti

How do you make multiple people happy (and create a little privacy) in a tiny seaside apartment? You enlist people like UdA Architetti to configure the space to make a large living room with a kitchen, two separate bedrooms that face the ocean, a bathroom, plus a place for laundry, and you have Fun House , an apartment in Juan-les-Pins, France. Instead of just building some boring walls in the space, they used construction kits to make the bedrooms within the living space – creating a room within a room. Pretty smart option, especially for people that might be renting a space and aren’t allowed to make permanent structural changes.
I’m a big fan of Brendan Ravenhill , but I realized I hadn’t featured his beautiful Cord lighting series before. He’s just released two new pieces in the collection, a 3-arm pendant and a sconce, but here’s a look at all of them in their stunning glory. Cord Pendant uses tensegrity with the steel arms in compression and the electrical wires in constant tension. Held together by a triangular brass element, the arms stretch out like their reaching for the walls.

I was really excited about coming back to the Stockholm Furniture Fair , having enjoyed it so much last year . Having exhibited for the first time at Greenhouse in 2004, Nendo founder Oki Sato was invited back as the guest of honor. He created a bright white installation inspired by snow capped mountains. Scandinavia is well-known for its woollen products, and I loved these Icelandic wool rugs from Volki - perfect for the snowy weather outside. http://design-milk.com/favorites-stockholm-furniture-fair-2013/

Kunsthof-Passage: Dresden «

31 Jul Click to enlarge Tucked away in a student district of Dresden, Germany, you’ll find Kunsthof-Passage , a series of buildings and courtyards that encompass a farm collective as well as shops and cafés. Walking through these buildings into the courtyards leads to a fun surprise: the Court of Water . Using the gutters, metal pipes and funnels, architect Heike Bottcher designed a Rube Goldberg -type contraption that plays “music” when the rain comes down and through. Though this installation is probably the most fun, there are other artistic façades in Kunsthof-Passage including the Court of Mythical Creatures and the Court of Metamorphosis .
