There are plenty of apps and websites that let you overlay a pair of glasses on your face, but Warby Parker is taking things a step further by actually rendering the glasses in a live, 3D preview on your face with augmented reality. It’s the natural extension of Warby Parker’s original Face ID-based update for the iPhone X back in 2017, which used Apple’s 3D face maps to recommend a pair of glasses to buy.

Startup Asteroid Aims to Reinvent the Human-Computer Interface with Augmented Reality Software & Hardware Kit

The personal computer had the mouse, touchscreens made smartphones mainstream consumer devices, and AR headsets like the HoloLens and the Magic Leap One have leveraged gesture recognition. Now, one new startup is looking to revolutionize the whole spectrum of human-computer interfaces (HMI) with not one but five natural input methods working in concert. On Tuesday, Asteroid launched a crowdfunding campaign for its 3D Human-Machine Interface Starter Kit, which supplies developers with the software and hardware for creating apps controlled by eyes, hand gestures, and even thoughts and emotions. Gartner Identifies Five Emerging Technology Trends That Will Blur the Lines Between Human and Machine

While these technologies enable early adopters to adapt to new situations and solve problems that have not been encountered previously, these technologies will become available to the masses — democratized. Movements and trends like cloud computing, the “maker” community and open source will eventually propel AI into everyone’s hands. This trend is enabled by the following technologies: AI Platform as a Service (PaaS), Artificial General Intelligence, Autonomous Driving (Levels 4 and 5), Autonomous Mobile Robots, Conversational AI Platform, Deep Neural Nets, Flying Autonomous Vehicles, Smart Robots, and Virtual Assistants.
