Photo by Luis Villa del Campo/ Flickr [UPDATE: New versions of this post are published periodically. Please, look for the updated version.] Blogs are a great source of curated content with diverse points of view. They map what is going on in the country, giving hints on the daily lives of foreigners that married Brazilians, missionaries that moved to the Northeast, gourmets that explore the best of the country’s cuisine etc.

All these blogs (some of which, like Deep Brazil, have a magazine format) are updated fairly constantly. I would like to call your attention to a few blogs that I would like to include in an hors-concours category, due to their quality: yummy Flavors of Brazil, broad and lively Adventures of a Gringa, deep brainy O Mangue, welcoming Gringoes and edgy The Good Blood. Please, let me know if you have any other suggestions. 3Crumbs – “poetic. emotional. rio based. 3 crumbs has 3 faces. 3 crumbs is 3 me. multiple. multilingual. multinational.” Gringo Rio – “I’m a gringo. Deeper Into Leather: TL Talks With Mitch Alfus. To source luxury leather, Alfus says, he goes straight to the ultimate source: the luxury cow (or lamb). To identify such an animal, Mitch wants answers: “How was it raised?

How was it fed? Was it naturally fed, was it farm-fed, was it grazing out in the valley? What kind of water did it drink?” Indeed, Mitch believes, you are what you wear—and what you sit on. Mitch Alfus: I look for the cleanliness of the skin. MA: I have people inspecting it overseas, or the customer is allowed to go and inspect it in the tannery before it gets shipped. MA: We have a reputation not just for selling a commodity of leather, but for creating something… for transforming it into something more: washable leather, for instance, which has been a huge thing over the last 5 years. MA: For spring 2013, it’s layered, bright orange, bright red, and bright blue. MA: It gets better as you wear it. www.libraleather.com For more, check out The Selby’s film Mitch Alfus, The Leather King Amanda Jakubik. TECH. MODELS. Craig McDean’s The Whites of Spring.

Tycho Brahe listen (14 December 1546 – 24 October 1601), born Tyge Ottesen Brahe,[1][2][3][4] was a Danish nobleman known for his accurate and comprehensive astronomical and planetary observations. He was born in Scania, then part of Denmark, now part of modern-day Sweden. Tycho was well known in his lifetime as an astronomer and alchemist and has been described more recently as "the first competent mind in modern astronomy to feel ardently the passion for exact empirical facts. "[5] In his De nova stella (On the new star) of 1573, he refuted the Aristotelian belief in an unchanging celestial realm. As an astronomer, Tycho worked to combine what he saw as the geometrical benefits of the Copernican system with the philosophical benefits of the Ptolemaic system into his own model of the universe, the Tychonic system.

Life[edit] Early years[edit] Otte Brahe, Tycho's father, was a nobleman and an important figure at the court of the Danish king. LIFT started in 1981 as the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), and has over the past 20 years presented ground-breaking events and festivals to audiences of over 800,000 with 300 international premieres from 60 countries. LIFT has been instrumental in placing international theatre and performance on London's cultural agenda. LIFT events have been staged at over 30 London venues as well as numerous sites including streets, disused buildings, parks, open spaces and on the river Thames.

In 2001, after twelve festivals of international performances LIFT decided to break with the traditional biennial festival format and begin the LIFT Enquiry, a 5 year process of investigating theatre while presenting an on-going programme of events. To find out more about LIFT's current activity visit www.liftfestival.com On this website you can search and view 1000 items selected from the LIFT Living Archive.

This digitized selection represents 50 productions from the first 12 festivals. LIFT 2012 - LIFT. With London as its stage LIFT 2012 was the largest and most ambitious festival in our history. Over five weeks LIFT presented a festival of daring, witty and dazzling theatre that took place across the city, from the heart of the West End, to a car park in Croydon, to the spokes of the London Eye. With 21 productions from over 15 different countries LIFT 2012 was bigger, bolder, braver and with more surprises than ever before. With a host of new commissions and partnerships this is a year of firsts: LIFT 2012 took us into the West End for the first time in our history with Elevator Repair Service's extraordinary Gatz, billed the theatrical event of the decade; we established a major partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company's World Shakespeare Festival, co-commissioning three new international productions from dreamthinkspeak, Iraqi Theatre Company and Artistes, Producteurs, Associés that testify to Shakespeare's power as a global property.

OiR | Other ideas for Rio. Rio—a gallery of public art Rio de Janeiro is—literally—an open air art gallery. The city is home to the largest collection of public art in Brazil, with more than 570 works on display in parks, plazas and streets, constituting a collection whose inception dates back to the 17th century. Nothing could be more appropriate for the city that flaunts the title of “marvelous” and that becomes even more interesting as it promotes contact between the work of art, the natural landscape, and people who circulate in the environs. This is the perspective of the unprecedented biennial project OiR—Other Ideas for Rio, which begins on September 7, 2012, and comes to an end with the 2016 Olympics, promoting original interventions in picture-postcard locations around the city. Internationally prestigious artists who had never before created for the city were invited to propose major works for Rio de Janeiro’s urban landscape. When? September 7 through November 2, 2012.
