HAL 9000

Next we make a lens to focus and diffuse the light. I tried many different materials, looking for a substance with the right properties. It needed to be clear, easy to use, and stable enough to not degrade. I tried polyurethane, gelatin, paraffin wax, and even epoxy, but one clearly stood out as the best: candle-making gel.

Katamari Hack

New paltforms like Nvidia’s Tegra 2 are allowing for some very powerful tablets to appear on the market, usually running the Android OS. But Compulab has decided to use Nvidia’s platform to create a tiny, feature-packed desktop PC instead. The Trim Slice is the smallest nettop I believe I have ever seen measuring just 130 x 95 x 15mm.

Pinguy OS

Ubuntu is a great OS and undoubtedly the most popular and easiest Linux based Distro to use but even with its default setup and chosen programs it's still lacking functionality and ease of use for most new users. So what I decided to do was build a Distro that looks good, could do everything most user would ever want to do and that was very simple to use. I started out by listening to what my friends and family wanted to use their PC for and found the most user friendly programs for the task they wanted to do. After a while I got a good idea what most people use their PC for and what programs were the easiest to use. Like using Shotwell for easily uploading images to Facebook, gtkpod for putting music, photos and video on a ipod/iphone and Arista for converting the video to a iPod friendly format. http://pinguy-os.sourceforge.net/

Assuming you've got a webcam hooked up to your computer, all you've got to do is run Motion Detector, set your preferences (Motion Detector can capture still images and/or movies complete with timestamps whenever it detects motion), and hit Start to run your new security webcam. Motion Detector's sensitivity slider lets you determine just how much motion the app needs to detect before it starts capturing images. As you can see in the screenshot, triggering motion is indicated by the red squares.

ZuniDigital's Solution To Vampire Power | EarthTechling

Surge protectors and power strips are certainly types of devices in abundance in today’s retail environment. Most of them are fairly run of the mill, handling your need to protect your electronics from power surges and/or allowing you to plug multiple devices into a wall outlet with ease. Few of them, though, help take care of the issue of standby power pushing up your energy bill and using unnecessary energy unless you always remember to unplug them from the wall. We’ve highlighted companies before who have such energy saving power strips, such as Eco Strip . We recently came across another called ZuniDigital which seems to offer multiple products with promise to combat vampire power , including multiple configurations of a “Smart Green Surge Protector” and a wireless network bridge extender which also doubles as an energy saving power strip.
