The Business Case for Content Marketing. [INFOGRAPHIC] How We Consume Content Now (& What It Means For Your Marketing) Chances are you have one or more devices within arm’s reach. We live a four plus screen world that includes smartphones, tablets, e-readers and televisions. Depending on your lifestyle, this list may be expanded to include gaming devices, car-related devices and/or out-of-home screens.

Each screen transmits information where we as marketers wish to integrate our message in a way that will grab consumers’ attention. The good news is consumers trust content marketing. The problem is that US adults now spend about 11.5 hours a day with media according to data from eMarketer. Since most people do more than sit in front of a device all day (despite how it may feel to some of us), people have found new ways to efficiently process content. How we consume content As a result, we now have four distinct ways to consume content.

Focused use. With these changes in content consumption behavior, marketers and media companies must think about the amount and format of content they present. How to Produce High Quality Written Content. Why Big Content Is Worth the Risk. We all want the low-hanging fruit, but let’s be honest – the low-hanging fruit is rotten, bruised, and covered with the grubby fingerprints of all the other spoiled brats pawing at it. There’s a time for easy wins, but easy only gets you so far. Sadly, I see too many SEOs putting days or weeks of effort into crafting the perfect low-value scheme, when that same time could’ve easily gone into content that has real staying power and drives sales. I’m obsessed with “Big Content” lately – resources that go beyond our narrow bins of blog posts, videos, and infographics. I’m going to show you how that obsession is paying off, and why building real content is easier than you think.

I. What Is Big Content? First, let me apologize for introducing another important-sounding but vague and probably useless term. 1. If you want easy, then stop reading (this article is pretty long, and that sandwich won’t eat itself). 2. Flowchart + links + video = something bigger. 3. II. 1. 2. 3. III. 1. 2. 3. How to make sure your content gets links. A lot of the SEO industry has embraced content marketing heavily over the last twelve months.

I'd like to say there is no connection with the Penguin update reducing the effectiveness of some low quality ways of getting links, but I think it did have a lot to do with it! The funny thing is that content marketing has been around for a very, very long time. There are many people out there who are far better at it than many of the SEOs who are now embracing it, so we're playing catchup and trying to find the best route towards using content to get good results for our clients. This is quite tough and we're going to make mistakes along the way, some content will fly, some won't. The goal for many SEOs is links and social shares and if a piece of content isn't quite right, it may not get either of these. We need to try and reduce the risk of content not being well received by putting some hard work into the process for content creation. Content as an business asset There are other benefits too:

Why Your Marketing Needs Content Curation At its core, content curation is like a great editor who brings his unique taste and understanding of his target audience to his selection of the best content for his readers. He provides context for the content so that it’s more than collection of information. Content curation defined Content curation chooses the most relevant, highest quality digital information to meet your readers’ needs on a specific subject. This digital content can be in one or more formats such as text, blogs, feeds, images, video and presentations. 3 Reasons your content marketing strategy needs content curation As an integral part of your content marketing strategy, content curation doesn’t push masses of content to your audience. 12 Attributes of a successful content curation strategy Here are twelve attributes your content curation strategy should have to insure success.

Content marketing strategy: an A-Z guide to success. Content marketing is currently battling ‘big data’ and ‘responsive design’ for the hottest digital marketing phrase of the year. Yet the truth is that while the label has grown in popularity, the notion that content marketing is new is something of a curve ball. Many brands have been producing regular content for many years, and already appreciate the value of blogs, surveys, whitepapers and videos. They understand the power of content and understand how it can attract the right kind of attention. But what is new is that content marketing roles are being created, and teams are being restructured.

I see content marketing is a kind of umbrella term for five disciplines: editorial, marketing, PR, SEO and social. In this article I’m aiming to outline the various factors behind a successful content marketing strategy, partly for our own benefit (we hired our first content marketer last summer), and partly as a thinking out loud exercise so that you can tell me what I’ve missed. Strategies for effective online marketing Writer’s block is a lame excuse real writers don’t use. Translation: “I can’t write.” Writer’s void? Different issue. It means, “There are no writers here.” This is a legitimate challenge for a good many companies who want to get active in content marketing.

Sometimes there are writers, but there’s no room on their plates for generating new content. Sometimes the people at your company best qualified to help position your company as an authority in its niche loathe writing—or suck at it—or can’t (won’t) find time to write. Real content marketers make no excuses. You know that a steady stream of new and valuable content is the key to get new prospects to click around and existing customer to stick around. How about no one? What if, with nary a writer in sight, you could somehow manage to keep feeding the company’s content marketing machine? Just ask. Writer phobiacs often love to talk. I know a lot of people who are great marketers, but when blogging they often worry that they don’t have something which is important or unique enough to share online. Normally this is at the risk that someone may have said something similar before. That makes sense in a lot of ways and it is a valid concern which I admit to thinking myself when creating new content, or speaking at an event. Of course you always want to impress by telling people something they don’t know. Rand Fishkin wrote up a post recently about this topic - based largely on an excellent Ted talk by Kirby Ferguson, titled Embrace the Remix.

While we may not want to think that way at first - after all we want to think differently and create something new - what we are actually doing is taking an idea and giving our own angle and opinion for an audience. How do we come up with creative content? And how can you figure out what readers don’t know already? Here's some steps I would take for content ideation and planning: 1. 2. How to make an infographic online: five essential free tools. Given the popularity of infographics, you’d be wise to consider using them to help achieve your content marketing goals. As such it is important to map out your story / message / goals before starting to work on the design itself.
