This scoping review, commissioned by VSO and carried out by the Institute for Volunteering Research, brings together research and evidence on the impact of international volunteering to help better understand the effect that international volunteers have when they return to the UK.
The review discussed how international volunteering could have a positive impact on the development of personal and professional skills and the knowledge base of volunteers. It found this to be well documented in the education sector, but less so in the health sector. The research also pointed to the fact that less systematic evidence is available on the impact of returned volunteers on the development of skills and knowledge within their communities in the UK.
