Timeline Maker 3, Beautiful Timelines Through a Google Form. I promised the good folks who attended my session at ISTE (thanks for coming!) That I would update the Timeline Maker system for the newest version of Timeline JS. I wanted this version to be as accessible as possible so I built in a control panel to guide teachers through the setup process. This system uses a Google Form to create a beautiful interactive and embeddable timeline. Timeline JS is a beautiful tool that transforms a Google Sheet into an interactive multimedia timeline. Usually, when we say “American slavery” or the “American slave trade,” we mean the American colonies or, later, the United States. But as we discussed in Episode 2 of Slate’s History of American Slavery Academy, relative to the entire slave trade, North America was a bit player.
From the trade’s beginning in the 16th century to its conclusion in the 19th, slave merchants brought the vast majority of enslaved Africans to two places: the Caribbean and Brazil. This interactive, designed and built by Slate’s Andrew Kahn, gives you a sense of the scale of the trans-Atlantic slave trade across time, as well as the flow of transport and eventual destinations. The North American mainland played a relatively minor role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Its ports sent out less than five percent of all known voyages, and its slave markets absorbed less than four percent of all slaves carried off from Africa. An intra-American trade in slaves – originating in the Caribbean - supplied additional slaves, however.
This region was exceptional in the Americas in that a positive rate of natural population growth began relatively early, thus reducing the dependence of the region on coerced migrants. The Caribbean was one of the two major broad regional markets for slaves from Africa. Brazil was the center of the slave trade carried on under the Portuguese flag, both before and after Brazilian independence in 1822, and Portugal was by far the largest of the national carriers. Alla Youtube-videor är inte tillgängliga eftersom bilden anpassas till Cardboard-appen, men det finns förvånansvärt många, och fler blir det. While WW1 ended nearly a century ago, its scars can still be found across Northern France and Belgium.
Zone Rouge (French for Red Zone) is perhaps the ultimate example of this. At the end of the war in 1918, the French government isolated the areas in red above and forbade activities such as forestry, farming and even the building of houses from being performed inside them. In total the non-contiguous areas took up 1,200 sq km (460 sq mi) (roughly the size of New York City). The primary reason the areas were declared no-go zones was that they had seen some of the worst fighting during the war, particularly during the Battle of Verdun in 1916.
The areas were environmentally devastated and contained large numbers of unexploded ordnance along with human and animal remains that further contaminated the environment. Google’s Tone Chrome Extension Lets You Share URLs By Sound. Google launched an experimental Chrome extension today that lets you share the URL from your current browser tab with anybody within earshot. Tone, which is now available in the Chrome Web Store, uses sound to transmit the information and uses the speakers and microphones now typically available on any laptop. Because it’s audio-based, it has some interesting limitations: the information doesn’t carry very far, for example, and any wall will block it.
As the Google Research team behind the extension notes in today’s announcement, the first version was very efficient, but it sounded horrible. The team then moved to a codec that would play the sound beyond the limits of human hearing, but laptop microphones tend to be optimized for voice, so that didn’t really work all that well. The version that launched today now uses a “dual-tone multi-frequency signaling” system, similar to what telephone systems use. I’m not sure how useful this really is, but it’s a cool experiment.

I skrivande stund, läs 16 nov 2014, har du fler val att ta ställning till när du kommer in i appen under ”+”.

Listen to audio-recorded readings of former Consultants in Poetry Elizabeth Bishop, Gwendolyn Brooks and Robert Frost; Nobel Laureates Mario Vargas Llosa and Czeslaw Milosz, and renowned writers such as Ray Bradbury, Margaret Atwood, and Kurt Vonnegut read from their work at the Library of Congress. The Archive of Recorded Poetry and Literature at the Library of Congress dates back to 1943, when Allen Tate was Consultant in Poetry.
It contains nearly two thousand recordings—of poets and prose writers participating in literary events at the Library’s Capitol Hill campus as well as sessions at the Library’s Recording Laboratory. Most of these recordings are captured on magnetic tape reels, and only accessible at the Library itself. In digitizing the archive and presenting it online, the Library hopes to greatly broaden its use and value. The material featured on this online presentation represents a sample of this collection. Undervisning med hjälp av program. Presentations. "No hands up" - om att öka elevaktiviteten i klassrummet. Vad betyder värdeorden? Rubriken inleder med hur man kan tolka värdeorden. Värdeorden är de fetstilade orden i läroplanen som uttrycker på vilken nivå ett kunskapskrav nåtts, t ex enkelt, utvecklat, välutvecklat och det är där bedömningen utgår ifrån. För att hjälpa till att bedöma värdeorden används det som kallas bedömningsaspekter (här finns mer information från Pedagog Värmland om ämnet) men De kallas även för språkliga uttrycksformer i Skolverkets skrift Få syn på språket.
