FLIP/CITY proposes a new urban identity for Shanghai as a model for the development of future cities. By questioning traditional typologies, FLIP/CITY redefines methods of organizing communities by preserving the human scale. The proposal flips the horizontal cityscape to the vertical. Footprints of Shanghai’s existing typologies, only visible by plane, embody the new face of the vertical city. By expanding Shanghai up along the vertical plane unused urban voids will be activated. FLIP/CITY is a new urban typology that answers the needs of modern Shanghai, its economy, social structures and ecological plans for the future while embracing Shanghai’s rich history and its citizens.

Aquest dimecres 10 de novembre, a les 19h, al Saló de Graus de l’ESARQ-UIC. Simón Vélez, hijo y nieto de arquitectos, nació en Manizales,Colombia en 1949. Egresado de la universidad de los Andes. comenzó su carrera hace 40 años, Se trata del principal usuario del bambú como componente arquitectónico primordial.
Vélez ha creado sistemas de unión que incorporan bambú como un componente estructural permanente en estructuras tanto comerciales como residenciales. Ha sido invitado en cuatro años consecutivos por el Museo de Diseño Vitra y el Centro George Pompidou a impartir talleres en Francia, donde como ejercicio de aprendizaje se construían estructuras de bambú guadua. Para la Expo Hanover 2000, Vélez diseñó y construyó un pabellón de bambú de 2000 metros cuadrados para la ZERI (Iniciativa de Investigación para las Cero Emisiones). A la fecha, Vélez ha diseñado edificios de bambú en Alemania, Francia, Estados Unidos, Brasil, México, China, Jamaica, Colombia, Panamá, Ecuador, e India. WANG Shu and LU Wenyu founded the Amateur Architecture Studio in 1998. This Hangzhou-based practice has grown during the past eight years into a famous name in China. The Amateur Architecture Studio’s best-known projects are the Wenzheng Library in Suzhou University, the Harbor Art Museum in Ningbo and the Xiangshan Campus of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. The Amateur Architecture Studio was engaged in experimental research projects, for example Sanhe House in the China International Practical Exhibition of Architecture in Nanjing, the Ceramic Tea House in Jinhua Architecture Park in Jinghua.
The projects have been shown in international exhibitions from 2001 including “TU MU-Young Architecture of China” in AEDES Gallery, Berlin (Germany), Shanghai Biennale 2002 at the Shanghai Art Museum in Shanghai, (China), Alors, La Chine? En la pasada Bienal de Arquitectura uno de los temas de mayor interes tuvo relacion con la Generacion Emergente, donde se destacaron las obras y proyectos segun ciertas tematicas, de un gran numero de arquitectos nacionales menores de 35 años. Navegando por la web nos encontramos con el sitio New Italian Blood, el cual ha realizado una lista con las 10 mas innovadoras y emergentes oficinas de arquitectura españolas menores de 40 años.
La lista arroja un interesante grupo de arquitectos, ya habiamos tenido por estos lados a Fam, con el monumento al 11 M y a GPY, siendo parte de la exposicion ON SITE en el MOMA , donde resaltan buenas propuestas como la de Barozzi Veiga con la Szczeci Philharmonie, en Polonia, el Philadelphia Urban Voids de Ecosistema Urbano o la de Jaque para la Ciudad de la Cultura de Eisenman entre otros.
