Country Fiction by Juan Aballe. The series ‘Country Fiction’ by Juan Aballe is the result of a series of travels to different rural areas and scarcely populated regions of the Iberian Peninsula. As a few close friends started to move to the country, Juan Aballe found himself confronted with the idea of leaving the city himself. In what could be called a collection of daydreams, Country Fictions reflects on the photographic language itself and how we are influenced by previous representations and preconceived ideas about rural utopias.

The photographer says: “The illusion of escaping from contemporary society, the myths and hopes built around nature come together with the strangeness and the nostalgic look at a life that I might never live.” If you enjoy this body of work, you should also take a look at Scrublands by Antoine Bruy. All images © Juan Aballe. Photographer Recreates Children’s Nightmares From The 60s In Dark And Twisted Images. Most of us have at least one unforgettable childhood dream or nightmare that branded itself permanently into our memories. These powerful and imaginative childhood dreams were what interested American photographer Arthur Tress when, in the late 1960s and 70s, he created his psychoanalytic “Dream Collector” series of images, which captured children’s nightmares in terrifying detail. According to the artist’s statement, “Dreams or nightmares were collected by conversations with children in schools, streets, or neighbourhood playgrounds.

The children would be asked means of acting out their visions or to suggest ways of making them into visual actualities… These inventions often reflect the child’s inner life, his hopes and fears, as well as his symbolic transmutation of the external environment, his home or school, into manageable forms.” More info: arthurtress.com | blogs.getty.edu (h/t: petapixel) Fantastic Fungi: The Startling Visual Diversity of Mushrooms Photographed by Steve Axford. Marasmius haematocephalus To think any one of these lifeforms exists in our galaxy, let alone on our planet, simply boggles the mind.

Photographer Steve Axford lives and works in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales in Australia where he spends his time documenting the living world around him, often traveling to remote locations to seek out rare animals, plants, and even people. But it’s his work tracking down some of the world’s strangest and brilliantly diverse mushrooms and other fungi that has resulted in an audience of online followers who stalk his work on Flickr and SmugMug to see what he’s captured next. Axford shares via email that most of the mushrooms seen here were photographed around his home and are sub-tropical fungi, but many were also taken in Victoria and Tasmania and are classified as temperate fungi.

The temperate fungi are well-known and documented, but the tropical species are much less known and some may have never been photographed before. Panus fasciatus. Breathtaking photos show the bi-annual hunt for honey by the Nepalese Gurung tribe. Twice a year, one of the oldest and most dangerous traditions takes place in central Nepal. The Gurung tribe go on a challenging (to say the least) hunt for honey. Photographer Andrew Newey accompanied the tribe on their expedition and says of his time: ‘High in the Himalayan foothills of central Nepal, Gurung honey hunters gather twice a year, risking their lives to harvest the honey from the world’s largest honeybee. ‘For hundreds of years, the skills required to practise this ancient and sacred tradition have been passed down through the generations, but now both the number of bees and traditional honey hunters are in rapid decline as a result of increased commercial interests and climate change.’

Via Design Wreck. Photographs taken inside of instruments. There’s something other-worldly about these shots by Mierswa Kluska for the Berlin Philharmonic, which take a fascinating perspective from within the acoustic instrument. The internal landscape draws parallels to the architecture of buildings, and with a bit of imagination you can almost feel the unique tone and life of each acoustic instrument just by looking inside them. Mother And 4-Year-Old Daughter Take Adorable Pictures Of Their Impressive Yoga Poses. New-Jersey-based yoga practitioner and mother of two Laura Kasperzak has taken to doing yoga together with her 4-year-old daughter Mini and snapping cute photos. It didn’t take her long to realize that her 4-year-old daughter Mini is extremely fond of doing yoga, and the Internet went nuts – they already have 725,000 followers on Instagram.

Kasperzak has been practicing yoga for 17 years and has also been teaching classes and workshops in New Jersey. However, her passion for this Eastern meditation and training practice peaked after the births of her two children, who also found yoga interesting. Because Mini’s older brother is too shy to pose before the camera, she is more than happy to soak up the limelight. These amusing and inspiring photos show that exercise can be fun. She is only the latest in a line of excellent surreal photographers covered by Bored Panda, but her unique choice of models brings her amazing compositions to the next level.

[Read more...] While seemingly dangerous, these shots were made possible with the help of professional animal trainers. The bear, held by many as a symbol of primal strength and instinct, contrasts especially well with the elegant princess it has embraced. Fortunately, she has provided us with a few adorable behind-the-scenes photos showing how the animals are posed by their trainers, including a shot where the bear sneaks a snack from its trainer over the model’s shoulder. Even without the well-trained animals, her photos possess a rich mysticism and dream-like quality that makes them absolutely enchanting. Source: Facebook | Vkontakte | 500px. This stunning series of images by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher portrays the lives of the Dinka people, who herd cattle in South Sudan. The Dinka people vary their lifestyle by season – in the rainy season they live in permanent savannah settlements and raise grain crops like millet, while in the dry season they herd cattle along rivers throughout their region. Their lives are very closely intertwined with those of their cattle – at their coming of age ceremony, young Dinka men are given an ox, and that ox’s name becomes a part of their own name. As it grows, they also shape their ox’s long horns into different forms. Some Dinka go nude, although goat skins or beaded corsets and decorations are also common.

The common use of ash is not just for its decorative properties – it helps repel mosquitoes as well. Beckwith and Fisher are motivated by a desire to preserve “sacred tribal ceremonies and African cultural traditions all too vulnerable to the trends of modernity.” Photographs and watercolors merge in surreal paintings. We Hope You Love These 25 Beautiful & Creepy Abandoned Places. Each day we are distracted by our own lives, too busy to notice what is going on around us. However, most people aren’t disturbed by the chaos. Instead, we only feel fear when there is utter, terrible silence. Stillness is unnerving, not chaos. That’s probably why abandoned buildings, former hotspots of humanity, are so intriguing. It’s addictive to think about the lives that passed through these doors, only to eventually move on and forget. 1.)
