I cannot even tell you how excited I was when I found this pin explaining how simple it is to cut glass bottles. For our first anniversary, my husband signed us up for a glassblowing class. It was awesome and we had a great time. As we were leaving, one of the artists was turning Corona bottles into drinking glasses for a friend’s wedding gift. I was wondering why these glasses weren’t one of the projects we could choose from that day.
I left there thinking that Corona glasses could only be made by the glassblowers and their fancy equipment. Apparently I was wrong. We decided to shake things up in our hunt this year by turning it into more of a game.
Party Rules * Hide your confetti eggs as you would normal eggs, and let your friends go hunting for them.* Once everyone has collected the eggs (or as the eggs are found – your choice), the *kindly* smashing upon heads begins.* No throwing eggs! I got LOT’S of requests for a tutorial on how I DID THIS! So here it is. FINALLY! You will be able to learn how to cut glass. I want to warn you. It’s best to triple your yarn because it will burn longer! Soak it GOOD! I like to tie my yarn where I want my glass to “cut” then quickly pour polish remover over the string again. Get a big bowl with ice and water ready. VERY IMPORTANT! Slowly turn your bottle. You can’t let the flame go OUT then dunk it in the ice water.

You all know we love a good Anthropologie knockoff around here – so a couple of days ago when I was browsing online I came across this mirror. Oh I definitely need that. Hold the presses – did that say $498??? Huh. We can do better than that. :) So after scouring the thrift shops, cutting myself on mirror glass, and overcoming an unreasonable fear of Mod Podge, here is my version! (Bear with me here – taking a picture of a mirror is a bit tricky. Ready for the tutorial? You’ll need: A MirrorEasy Off Oven CleanerFabric (enough to cover the frame and the back of the mirror)Mod PodgeA Staple Gun or other framing tool I went searching for a method to removing silvering and came across a great tutorial at Mitzi’s Collectibles.
I started with a frame that I found at the thrift store. Obviously not clean. We actually had to ask on this one – because it just said 1951. $19.51 seemed way to high – and it was. Start by taking your mirror out of the frame. Lay your mirror down on a protected surface. Stencil with freezer paper (harry potter tee) Yes, I am a nerd. I came up with a brilliant idea for a Harry Potter t-shirt and I couldn't resist. "Expecto Patronum! " However, you can make whatever kind of design you want with a freezer paper stencil.
It doesn't have to be Harry Potter related. I learned about the joys of freezer paper back in my early college days. Basically, freezer paper is backed with a plastic coating that will stick to soft surfaces when ironed, but it peels off cleanly and easily. To make a sweet t-shirt you will need: paper & pencil a t-shirt an iron a piece of cardboard or poster board fabric paint & brush Start by drawing your design on some regular old paper. My design kept getting bigger, so I taped two sheets together. Next, place your design underneath a sheet of freezer paper and trace it neatly with a sharpie.
The marker gives your lines greater width making it easier to cut them out and paint them in later. Now place a piece of cardboard under your freezer paper to protect your table while you cut. DIY Bunny Placecards. By Jenny Batt Well, I was looking for something whimsical but beyond the usual pastels for Easter. Every so often the boys and I cruise the toy animal section and these little guys hopped out at me. (Get it, hopped…har har. ) This is just a variation of the DIY Party Animal Candles, but perfectly fun. Of course, I had to make them gold. Supplies - plastic bunniespliersneedle nose pliersgold spray paintdrill with a 1/32″ drill bitwire or old ornament hooks Drill little holes in the tops of your bunnies, holding them securely with the pliers.
I formed the wire before painting, but you can do it after, too. Grab the end of the wire in the needle nose pliers and wrap, leaving about 3/4 of the length straight. Your kid’s favorite animal holding that birthday candle minus those red eyes that are oh so typical for plastic creatures, awesome. Supplies - plastic animalsplastic candle holdersdrill with 1/8″ drill bitpliersgold spray paint For the plastic animals, you can use any kind you can find. Hold the animal with the pliers and drill a hole straight down, being careful not to pop out the other side. Spray paint the animals in a few light coats, rotating them to cover all sides. Daniel McGregor of Germany shared with us how he took an old broken guitar and upcycled it into a speaker. The guitar was put to good use during its lifetime as an instrument and therefore bridge plate broke off because of wear and tear. Daniel got the idea to transform the guitar when he was throwing out an old boombox that was also broken. Check out a few more detailed shots of the build below. Nice hack, Daniel!
