Esthetics and craftsmanship, solid and liquid, smooth and raw, and dark and light collide in ‘Keep it Glassy’, making it into an engaging visual experience while providing a new and rich perspective on glass. COORDINATON ASIA has been collaborating with the Shanghai Museum of Glass since 2009 to create a cultural hotspot in Shanghai’s Baoshan area.

The museum has grown fast into a mature and award winning cultural institute, that is recognized by national and international media as a relevant and serious cultural destination. To further strengthen this position, COORDINATION ASIA has created ‘Keep it Glassy’, a new exhibition space dedicated exclusively to glass design. In creating the visitor’s journey and design for the Shanghai Museum of Glass, that opened in 2011, COORDINATION ASIA emphasized the history of glass – in China and worldwide – and the contemporary ways of using the material within the realm of the arts.

Accumulation Paper Cut Sculptures Talented artist Christine Kim has delighted us in the past with her illustrations, which showcased the use of penciled collaged figures, incorporated with watercolor backdrops and paper cut imagery to produce beautiful motifs. In this series, Accumulation, she has produced a paper installation for a retail space in Toronto as part of the Design Offsite Festival.

This series is comprised of intricate, cloud-like paper cut patterned structures, which explore what can be produced once folded, curved, and gathered. Exhibitions The AA exhibition programme celebrates the work of practices whose early cutting-edge approach to design has begun to manifest itself, in the process firmly establishing these firms at the forefront of their professions. Engineers Adams Kara Taylor (AKT) worked alongside some of the world’s most influential architects on major projects and have been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Architect and former AA tutor Frank Barkow brought the work of his practice Barkow Leibinger to the AA. The exhibition transformed the AA Gallery into a ‘grotto’ landscape of cut steel tubes, formed using a state-of-the-art revolving laser-cutting process. The AA’s exhibition year began with a very different vision: ‘Future Non-Future’ brought together architectural projects for London which all remain unbuilt. Interiors Archives - Page 4 of 98.

Comment capter l’attention des adolescents ? Une station de métro ? iGNANT. With his pilot project ‘El Banquete’, graphic designer and illustrator Martin Satí realized a creative process and a symbiosis between the tutor and students. Using fruits, vegetables and small glasses arranged in rows, he managed to create a situation in which working together in a relaxed way, like a big family sitting around a table to eat and tell their stories, became a new experience. ‘El Banquete’ can be seen as a graphic action in ten steps which is documenting the development of the artwork to get the final result. Through these ten steps, our history is emerging, as an evolutionary process. The intention was that the student and the tutor learn to build their work with everything that happened. We think playing with your food like that and even achieving something whilst doing so could be practiced more. All images © Martin Satí. REGARDS SUR LE NUMERIQUE | Accueil.

The professional association for design. Mark Lombardi and the Ecstasy of Conspiracy. Detail, Mark Lombardi, George W. Bush, Harken Energy, and Jackson Stephens, ca. 1979-90 (5th version) , 1999 With the 40th anniversary of the assassination of JFK freshly behind us, our abiding romance with conspiracy theories seems more ardent than ever. And one of the most remarkable expressions of that romance is on view at The Drawing Center in New York, "Global Networks," an exhibition of the work of Mark Lombardi. In an age where we all dimly sense that The Truth Is Out There, Lombardi's extraordinary drawings aim to provide all the answers.

Although Lombardi's work has combined the mesmerizing detail of the engineering diagram and the obsessive annotation of the outsider artist, the man was neither scientist nor madman. The resulting body of work must be seen to be believed — an admittedly oxymoronic endorsement of subject matter of such supreme skepticism. LeCollagiste VJ.

QR Codes for Digital Nomads. 2011 | Golan Levin and Asa Foster III, for F.A.T. Lab ABSTRACT:QR Codes for Digital Nomads: QR_STENCILER and QR_HOBO_CODES are homebrew "infoviz graffiti" tools, intended for civic markup and in-situ information display. QR_STENCILER is a free, open-source, fully automated software utility that converts QR codes into vector-based stencil patterns suitable for laser cutting. The QR_STENCILER software was used to create the QR_HOBO_CODES, a collection of 100 stencil designs which, deployed in urban spaces, may be used to warn people about danger or clue them into good situations.

Inspired by 19th Century "hobo symbols", these stencils can be understood as a covert markup scheme for urban spaces — providing directions, information, and warnings to digital nomads and other indigenterati. QR_STENCILER and QR_HOBO_CODES, a F.A.T. Lab project, was developed by Golan Levin and Asa Foster III at the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at CMU, with generous support from Ponoko.com. How to become internet famous for $68 - Quartz. Santiago Swallow may be one of the most famous people no one has heard of. His eyes fume from his Twitter profile: he is Hollywood-handsome with high cheekbones and dirty blond, collar-length hair.

Next to his name is one of social media’s most prized possessions, Twitter’s blue “verified account” checkmark. Beneath it are numbers to make many in the online world jealous: Santiago Swallow has tens of thousands of followers. The tweets Swallow sends them are cryptic nuggets of wisdom that unroll like scrolls from digital fortune cookies: “Before you lose weight, find hope,” says one. Another: “To write is to live endlessly.” Swallow is a pure product of the Internet: a “speaker and thinker,” who specializes in “re-imagining self in the online age,” an apparent star of the prestigious TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference, and a hit at Austin’s annual art, technology and music event, South By South West (SXSW).

This is what Santiago Swallow’s Twitter feed looked like.
