This Memorial Day, we remember some things and try to forget about others: “So, I had just given birth to my first son at a local birthing center and there had been another couple that had given birth just before me there as well. It's easy to downplay the importance of comedians. With their rubbery faces, silly voices and jokes about mother-in-laws (okay so we need to start watching a better variety of comedy) they can seem like glorified court jesters. But maybe we should stop being so damn serious and recognise them as the artistes they really are. For the second year in a row, Funny or Die and Gallery 1988 have joined forces for this very reason. Their Is This Thing On? exhibition showcases the work of 100 artists who have created paintings, prints and sculptures to pay tribute to their favourite joke-makers.
