What you see above is a graph of the mouse movements of redditor ValTM playing Minecraft for around 3.9 hours.
The map was made by the program IOGraph, which I promptly downloaded and installed. The java app tracks user mouse movement (as lines) and stops (as dots that increase in size with duration of the stop). The result is a neat little piece of abstract art that ostensibly contains some level of information about mouse movement, but does a better job of looking cool. Engineers boost computer processor performance by over 20 percent. Researchers from North Carolina State University have developed a new technique that allows graphics processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs) on a single chip to collaborate – boosting processor performance by an average of more than 20 percent.
“Chip manufacturers are now creating processors that have a ‘fused architecture,’ meaning that they include CPUs and GPUs on a single chip,” says Dr. Huiyang Zhou, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering who co-authored a paper on the research. “This approach decreases manufacturing costs and makes computers more energy efficient. However, the CPU cores and GPU cores still work almost exclusively on separate functions. They rarely collaborate to execute any given program, so they aren’t as efficient as they could be. GPUs were initially designed to execute graphics programs, and they are capable of executing many individual functions very quickly. The Stoner collection - a list by max_hol. NASA Mars Science Laboratory Mission & Curiosity Rover. A penny in today's economy does not go very far, but that has not stopped NASA from making a 1-cent piece stretch all the way to another planet: Mars.
The copper coin is attached to a smartphone-size plaque at the end of the robotic arm on Curiosity, NASA's Mars Science Laboratory car-size rover. The plaque, which was added to the vehicle as a calibration target, looks like an eye chart supplemented with color chips and the attached penny. NASA launched the Curiosity rover last November and it is scheduled to touch down on Mars in August.
Targeted for a landing inside the Red Planet's Gale Crater, Curiosity will then begin its two-year mission to determine whether the area's environment has ever been favorable to support microbial life. Researchers will use Curiosity's calibration plaque to test one of the six-wheeled rover's five science cameras, the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI). Engadget.

Google Inc. is looking for a few good Web surfers. But just a few. Last month the company launched a market research program called the Screenwise Project, in which it hoped to follow a small group of people as they made their way around the Internet. The program is totally voluntary -- similar to TV market research in which people have a box on their television -- and Google is offering to give participants up to $25 in Amazon gift cards for allowing the company to track the way they use the Internet. And to quell any lingering fears about loss of privacy, people who sign up are free to opt out at any time, according to a statement from Google. That's not a bad deal, especially to those of us who already assume everything we do on the Internet is being monitored anyway. To become a Screenwise panel member, you must be at least age 13, have a Google account, or sign up for a Google account, and use the Google Chrome browser while searching the Web.

An RFID chip is just a passive antenna that’s pre-configured to transmit a specific code when it’s brought near an RFID reader. Generally, RFID is used as a key of sorts; so for example, you can set up your computer or your phone to unlock only when you pick them up. The Best of CES 2012. This past week was a blur for anyone who attended this year’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
