September 16, 2011 from PauloGabriel's blog We often see some poor designed concept art around the web, but in the other way, there are some amazing artists doing outstanding pieces, like Nate Hallinan, an concept artist that has done some great pieces for a bunch of games. I didn't know Hallinan until know, and actually don't know if he's well known, but one of the most amazing pieces of his is his Smurf concept, which he explains beautifully in his portfolio. Matt Gaser takes us on an incredible journey through his storytelling art. It's hard not to get lost in this whimsical world he's conjured up from his imagination. The bright characters he creates are so full of life, they make you feel as if you've seen them in a wonderful dream. Lost in a Whimsical World (15 pieces) - My Modern Metropolis
The beloved 8-bit video games of our youth such as Mega Man and Super Mario Bros. have inspired plenty of 2-dimensional webcomics, T-shirts and socks in recent years. Laura Bifano's art puts a different spin on blocky animals, though, sculpting her critters from 3-D blocks and letting them loose in curvier worlds. Binafano's "Menagerie" series, which appears on her website at LaurenBifano.com , explores the relationships between turtles and scorpions, as well as quite moments in the lives of deer. Bifano paints them in a way that would make them fit right in to the landscapes of Minecraft , though, and the look she achieves is cool. Her boxy bees contrast with her frilly flowers, as does her tiger amid some softly painted grass and trees.

I’m not usually one for meme / internet news and/or historical based illustrations, but this story on Boing Boing of a cat + an airship + a technological milestone was too much for me to ignore! Still a “work in progress” and I’m not sure if I’ll do anything with the image, it was mostly just for fun.

The results would probably look a lot like this. Artist Dave Rapoza has updated the TMNT, and given them all a brand new real-life look. Even the creepy little fly villain, Baxter, from the cartoon got a makeover! Each new piece is both gorgeous and horrifying at the same time.
