Fear, uncertainty and doubt Fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) is a tactic used in sales, marketing, public relations,[1][2] politics and propaganda. FUD is generally a strategic attempt to influence perception by disseminating negative and dubious or false information. An individual firm, for example, might use FUD to invite unfavorable opinions and speculation about a competitor's product; to increase the general estimation of switching costs among current customers; or to maintain leverage over a current business partner who could potentially become a rival. The term originated to describe disinformation tactics in the computer hardware industry but has since been used more broadly.[3][dubious ] FUD is a manifestation of the appeal to fear.

New Finger Device Reads Books To The Blind Researchers from the MIT Media Lab have developed a device shaped like a giant ring that can read to people who are visually impaired. They call this 3-D printed prototype, FingerReader. After slipping the device on, the user just runs an index finger below the printed text in a magazine, on a business card, or on a menu, for example. A small camera scans the words and the device reads them out loud in real time. Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg opens up Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in his college dorm room six years ago. Five hundred million people have joined since, and eight hundred and seventy-nine of them are his friends. The site is a directory of the world’s people, and a place for private citizens to create public identities. You sign up and start posting information about yourself: photographs, employment history, why you are peeved right now with the gummy-bear selection at Rite Aid or bullish about prospects for peace in the Middle East. Some of the information can be seen only by your friends; some is available to friends of friends; some is available to anyone. Facebook’s privacy policies are confusing to many people, and the company has changed them frequently, almost always allowing more information to be exposed in more ways.

Chow-to: Stop worrying and love your kitchen timer Is it just me, or has the cachet of the home-cooked meal really skyrocketed lately? For most of us, shopping seasonally, taking a plant-centric approach to ingredients, and cooking from scratch have long been the only real ways to make a dent in the environmental impact our food has without going into debt. Lately, though, sustainable food advocates have begun really homing in on the cooking part of that equation. (It’s about time — we may all be alone in our separate kitchens, but at least we’re talking to one another.) And it looks we can all agree on a few things: Cooking at home saves money (even when compared to the least expensive fast food chains). And it takes time — so much time that some are arguing we should begin calculating an average hourly wage into the cost.

Symbiosis In a symbiotic mutualistic relationship, the clownfish feeds on small invertebrates that otherwise have potential to harm the sea anemone, and the fecal matter from the clownfish provides nutrients to the sea anemone. The clownfish is additionally protected from predators by the anemone's stinging cells, to which the clownfish is immune. Symbiosis (from Ancient Greek σύν "together" and βίωσις "living")[1] is close and often long-term interaction between two or more different biological species. 3DTouch Works In 3 Dimensions & Could Replace The Computer Mouse University of Wyoming researchers have developed a novel wearable device, called 3DTouch, which could revolutionize the way we interact with computers. While a computer mouse is useful and has dominated the way we have interacted with computers for the last 50 odd years, it is restricted to two-dimensional movements; this new piece of technology would allow us to interact in three-dimensions. The device has been described in arXiv. Interacting in 3D is certainly not a new idea.

Screenwriter says Facebook movie is not ‘a punch in the face’ to Zuckerberg The New Yorker just published a lengthy profile of Facebook cofounder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg. It’s a fun, thorough piece, one that lives up to the subtitle “Mark Zuckerberg opens up” — though for readers who have been following Facebook there probably isn’t much new from Zuckerberg himself. The most interesting quotes actually come from Aaron Sorkin, writer of The Social Network, the movie about Facebook’s early days that’s scheduled to open on October 1.
