Types of Research Designs - Organizing Your Social Sciences Research Paper - Research Guides at University of Southern California. The function of a research design is to ensure that the evidence obtained enables you to effectively address the research problem logically and as unambiguously as possible.
In social sciences research, obtaining information relevant to the research problem generally entails specifying the type of evidence needed to test a theory, to evaluate a program, or to accurately describe and assess meaning related to an observable phenomenon. With this in mind, a common mistake made by researchers is that they begin their investigations far too early, before they have thought critically about what information is required to address the research problem. Without attending to these design issues beforehand, the overall research problem will not be adequately addressed and any conclusions drawn will run the risk of being weak and unconvincing. As a consequence, the overall validity of the study will be undermined.
None.cs.umass. Course outline: Have you been following the rise in fitness gadgets such such as Fitbit, Jawbone UP, Nike+ Fuelband, etc, and wondered how they calculate your activity levels and how many calories you have burned each day?
Have you looked at the iPhone or Android App Store and seen the huge number of calorie counting, running, diet tracking, and health monitoring apps, and wondered what it would take to develop such an application? How about the latest health tracking devices and smartwatches including the Apple Watch, Android Wear, and Microsoft Band that go beyond calories and diet, to even monitor your sleep, heart rate, and breathing rate? Report Reveals How Consumers Use Mobile Phones Worldwide. Mobile phones are found all around the world — ubiquitous even in emerging markets such as China and India — but how you use the device depends greatly on where you live.
In a new report entitled "The Mobile Consumer: A Global Snapshot," research company Nielsen looked at consumer behavior, device preference and usage in 10 different countries, including the U.S., UK, Australia, China, India and South Korea. Nielsen concluded that "usage differs significantly by market and demographic groups. " For example, the majority of mobile consumers in developed markets — such as South Korea (67%), Australia (65%) and the UK (61%) — tend to prefer smartphones. Basic feature phones, on the other hand, are more commonly used in India (80%), Turkey (61%) and Russia (51%). For smartphone users, the types of apps used also differ between countries, though they all generally prefer games and social networking.
Openp2pdesign.org. During November 2011 I did lecture about Open P2P Design for SIMBioMS (System for Information Management in BioMedical Studies), a multi-module solution for data management in biomedical studies.
SIMBioMS is a suite of software for data collection, harmonisation and analysis in large-scale biomedical genomics projects and it has provided services for many projects and initiatives. The project is developed by: Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (Riga, Latvia), European Bioinformatics Institute (Hinxton, UK), Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden), Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (Helsinki, Finland) and Uniquer (Lausanne, Switzerland). The initiative behind the project is now trying to develop not only software but also services around the software, and therefore asked for my consultancy in order to understand how to co-design their new services with the input of the future users (through Open P2P Design). Clinical decision support system. Role & Characteristics A clinical decision support system has been coined as an “active knowledge systems, which use two or more items of patient data to generate case-specific advice.” This implies that a CDSS is simply a DSS that is focused on using knowledge management in such a way to achieve clinical advice for patient care based on some number of items of patient data.
