Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap's objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe. Newsmap's objective is to simply demonstrate visually the relationships between data and the unseen patterns in news media. Google News automatically groups news tories with similar content and places them based on algorithmic results into clusters.

This program downloads DRM-free video (h.264) and audio (MP3) files from the BBC iPlayer service by pretending to be an iPhone . There’s more information on the Beebhack Wiki . It won’t download every programme that’s on the iPlayer website, because they’re not always available. Sometimes, this is by design (as in the case of films and expensive US series like Heroes); sometimes it’s due to omission or transient problems. In addition, it can’t currently download the embedded videos that are not part of the main iPlayer service.

Pogles' Wood was screened by the BBC from 1966 to 1968 as part of the BBC's Watch with Mother series. Prior to this in 1965 The first story in the series " The Pogles" was shown once but never repeated. In many respects this was the best story ever told featuring the Pogles but it was considered a little too scary for small children.
