At the same time, other design features of the buildings and the surrounding landscaped grounds have been addressed; in particular, the project focussed on giving each tower building more of a distinct identity and a clearly recognisable entry. Externally, public, semi-private and private space are now more clearly delineated and outdoor areas are strategically linked to the surrounding sub-urban context.
Temple Emanu-El. Temple Emanu-el project is located at one of the most active areas of in the Dallas Metropolitan area. As one of the first Reform Jewish congregation in North Texas and the largest synagogue in the South, the Temple Emanu-el has had a significant historical, cultural and social presence in the community. In 1957 the temple moved to its present location in north Dallas. The noted Architects Howard R. Meyer and Max M. Sandfield, with noted California architect William Wurster as consultant, received an Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects for the design of the present structure.
Cunningham Architects was brought in to do a renovation of the existing structure in early 2012. The design works with a limited set of modules and examines how through a the use of urethane master molds a series of panels could be constructed that were both economical and appearing to coordinate a desired aesthetic outcome. PRAÇA DA AMAURI | Isay Weinfeld. Meguro office. Nendo’s office is located near the Meguro River in Tokyo, on the fifth floor of an old office building. We wanted the usual spaces and functions -meeting space, management, workspace and storage- to be separate, but also to maintain a sense of connection between them.
To achieve this effect, we divided the space with walls that seem to sag and flop like a piece of cloth held up between two hands, enclosing the various spaces more than the usual office dividers, but less than actual walls. Employees can move between spaces by walking over the parts of the walls that “sag” the most, thus emphasizing the contrast between the uses of the different spaces. Spaces that need more sound-proofing are enclosed with the kind of plastic curtains you might find at a small factory so that people can work without worrying about noise but not feel isolated. When you stand up and look through the whole space, people, shelves and plants seem to appear and disappear as though floating between the waves. Villa 1 — Powerhouse Company. Rooms with many views Villa 1 was Powerhouse Company’s first project: our chance to present our manifesto to the world. We were a fledgling practice then, working from kitchen-table offices in Rotterdam and Copenhagen.
But we knew exactly what we wanted to build (a house with great spatial qualities and meticulous detailing) and how we wanted to build it (in a smooth, service-driven process). The design of Villa 1 was inspired by the site, the clients’ paradoxical desire to live “in a modern glass house with all the cosiness of an old farmhouse”, and by Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and the work of Saarinen. The project embodies our ideas about professionalism. The site: a manufactured forest The plot was in a wood which, like so much of Dutch nature, is entirely manmade. Because the house’s spatial needs required twice the volume allowed by the regulations, we designed it upside down, placing all the bedrooms underground with the daytime functions on top. Why oh Y? Taiwan 2003 Local partner: J.M.Lin The Observer Design Group 1st prize international competition How Do You Build a Rock? The project for the artificial rocks in Taiwan grew out of two traditions: on the one hand that of the Japanese Zen garden in which various natural rocks are surrounded by an expanse of raked gravel in such a way that both their form and their position generate tension; on the other, that of the large expanses of timber decking that are found in ports around the world, on which people can relax by the sea. In the Ocean Plaza in Batoutz we decided to create a garden of artificial rocks made of timber, modelled on the volcanic rocks that ring the port. But how do you generate a family of artificial rocks on the basis of neighbouring natural rock formations? We decided to look for a set of geometric rules common to all the rocks in a family.

The design and fabrication solution addresses the following: 1) a heterogeneous modular wall system, 2) application of a digital tool set, 3) detail of the system to facilitate a full scale construction, 4) project coordination between various teams, 5) precise choreography of components, and 6) consideration of iterative transformation across the field.
We began our research by looking to the Jeffersonian serpentine walls at the University of Virginia. Manuel Cucurell. Ninebyfour. Ninebyfour is a minimalist LED ceiling lamp by the Amsterdam based studio Waarmakers. The LED light tubes do not generate any heat during use, allowing the creators to use atypical materials for the fixture: wood and cork. Every year thousands of trees are felled in the Amsterdam area.
Usually the city trees disappear from root to branch in a shredder. The wood for the Ninebyfour fixture however comes from these salvaged trees. The former location of the ‘unfortunate’ trees are stamped on the cork. A first batch, from the Albert Neuhuysstraat, is now available. CIPEA (Chinese International Practical Exhibition of Architecture) | SGA: Sean Godsell Architects. A 38m x 8m rectangle is embedded into the side of hill in Nanjing China. The plan and general strategy for this building, part of a built display of architecture which includes 12 non Chinese Architects such as Stephen Holl, Arata Isozaki, Kazyuo Sejima, Ettore Sottsass and others and 12 Chinese counterparts, is an extension on the themes and ideas explored in the Carter/Tucker House and Peninsula House. In the Carter/Tucker house we explored the idea that the verandah could be abstracted and converted into a protective outer skin which could then be operated by the inhabitants of the building.
This notion was extended in the Peninsula House to include the roof and the difference between roof and wall in that sense was dissolved. It is a simple yet sturdy construction made of materials chosen to provide both comfort and balance. ÁPH80 embodies the principles and objectives of ÁBATON: wellbeing, environmental balance, and simplicity. ÁPH80 has 3 different spaces measuring 27 sq mt (9x3): a living-room/kitchen, a full bathroom and double bedroom. Its gabled roof is 3,5mts high indoors. Most of the materials can be recycled and meet the sustainable criteria that ÁBATON applies to all its projects. Technical Data: The outside is covered with grey cement wood board. Wohnhaus, Riedikon, 2004-2009 Das Wohnhaus, welches die Typologie der umliegenden Giebeldachhäuser neu interpretiert, erhält seine markante Gestalt durch die parametrische Anpassung der Form an den Kontext. Unter der Bedingung von zwei geometrischen Operationen wurde die Grundrissform des Hauses ermittelt: Zum einen sollte die Sicht des Nachbargebäudes auf den See frei bleiben, zum anderen wurde die Zufahrt und die Parkierung hinter dem Haus ermöglicht. Wie ein Zelt überdeckt ein auskragendes Faltdach die überhohen Räume des Obergeschosses.
Das Fensterband, welches sich dem Dachrand entlang entwickelt, unterstützt die horizontale Gliederung. 315 vertikale, senkrecht zur Wandfläche angebrachte Holzlatten umhüllen die Fassaden vollständig. Mittels Fräsungen wurden die Querschnitte der Latten im Bereich des Fensterbandes so moduliert, dass die Anforderungen an den Sicht- und Sonnenschutz erfüllt werden und sich verschiedene, weich ineinander fliessende Transparenzgrade einstellen. Projectpage. Shearers Quarters - House - Projects - John Wardle Architects. This beguiling shearers quarters sits as a companion building to an existing historic cottage on a working sheep farm.
Located on the site of the old shearing shed that was destroyed by fire, the residence houses shearers, and family and friends on annual tree planting weekends and retreats. The plan form transforms along its length to shift the profile of a slender skillion at the western end to a broad gable at the east. The geometry of this shift is carried through to the layout of internal walls, lining boards and window frames. A singular palette of materials is used with corrugated galvanised iron to the exterior, and timber internally. Inside is a large open living/dining/kitchen area, bathroom and laundry, two bedrooms and a bunkroom. The primary internal lining is Pinus Macrocarpa sourced from many different suppliers principally as individual trees from old rural windbreaks. Bergmeister wolf architekten. MIR.
