Pathway in Modern Literature. This pathway of the MA in Comparative Literary Studies focuses especially on twentieth and twenty-first century literature.

Pathway in Modern Literature

Its core course "Modern Literary Movements", surveys internationally significant trends, influences, and movements in modern European and American literature, including, for example, the “prophetic” role of the modern poet, challenges to Realism, the impacts of philosophers such as Nietzsche, the schools of Expressionism, Surrealism, and Absurdism, the modernist disruption of literary conventions, aspects of writing on the Holocaust, and the emergence of postmodernism. These developments are studied through the analysis of major representative texts within their relevant cultural context. Thanks to the flexible structure of the MA, you will have the opportunity to pursue your wider interests by studying three options from the large provision of the department, choosing at least one of these in an area that is relevant to modern literature.

MA/MSc in Creating Social Media. What is the social in social media?

MA/MSc in Creating Social Media

In this course we undertake theoretical and practical groundwork to develop an understanding of how social worlds operate. We look at a wide range of social processes and practices, both offline and online. The aim is to search for concepts and ideas that enable us to understand sociality, as it is found in existing forms of social media, and, more importantly, in that which is yet to be developed. Digital Bootcamp. Students on the MA/MSc Digital Journalism, MA/MSc Digital Sociology, MA/MSc Creating Social Media and MSc Computing programmes who are taking the Digital Sandbox module are encouraged to make the most of this opportunity to get a range of creative computing skills in the focused, hands-on and supported environment of the Digital Bootcamp.

Digital Bootcamp

It runs as a two week pre-sessional course in late August and early September, preparing students for the computing modules offered throughout the year. The pre-sessional bootcamp provides an invaluable opportunity for students from disparate backgrounds to gain some hands-on experience with a range of applied computing techniques relevant in many fields where computers should be used beyond the basics of document preparation and communication.

It encourages a genuine computer literacy and teaches modes of thinking and working that will be applicable in numerous real-world environments. Information for 2014-2015.
