photos + post by Kristin Ess So many emails have come in asking how I did the braid on Lauren’s hair for her last Chelsea Lately appearance. I recently recreated that braid and took a couple photos so you could see it up close. Here’s the very simple secret to this braid: In a regular braid there are 3 strands. For this look, all you do is braid one of those strands beforehand and loosen it up with your fingers, then braid as usual. Watch this video to see how it looks as the pieces loosen up and naturally fall out of the braid: Tags: braid, braid in a braid, braids, chelsea lately, hair, hair style, kristin ess, lauren conrad, lauren conrad braid, lauren conrad plait, layers, messy braid, messy plait, plait, style, textured braid, the beauty department, thebeautydepartment.com, video Related posts:

hair Recently I realized that we’ve never really had a specific chat about hair serums. There are so many different formulas from silicone-based, to alcohol free, to natural, to curl enhancing, etc… All of them promise to deliver mega shine on the driest, dullest hair. But there’s more to it than that. I thought it would be fun to break down 8 of my favorites (each being my jam for a different reason), tell you what I’ve experienced with each and tell you who I would recommend them for. hiphopsideproject - StumbleUpon When I was little, maybe 5 years old, my mum took me to the hair dressers and told them to give me what can only be described as a boy haircut. I’ve been scarred ever since. So I’ve been trying to grow my hair long for years now, I usually wuss out and end up getting a big chunk chopped off (never to the extent of the boy haircut that was surreptitiously thrust upon me!). This time I’m determined to have shiny mermaid length hair!! Over the past 6 or so months I think I’ve added about 5-6inches of hair, and that’s with a few trims in between.

Messy French bun My friend C. always wears one of those perfectly messy buns that makes it look like she just rolled out of bed in Montmartre. Here are her step-by-step instructions. (I say we copy her ruthlessly.) xo Step 1: Make your hair dirty. Chocolate Chip Lava Cookies I am so in love with these darn chocolate lava cookies! What is it about a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie stuffed with decadent, rich, melted chocolate that makes it so irresistible?? Especially when topped with vanilla ice cream. These are one of Kev’s favorite homemade treats, and he usually asks me to make them at least once a week.

tutorials We get a lot of emails asking how to use brushes correctly so I hope this helps you out a little! A brow brush is designed to be stiff and angled for a reason. And we use the slanted edge to shade and the tip of the edge to outline. Put those components together and a brow brush is quite frankly a thing of perfection! Here’s how to use it properly: READ MORE…

Hair Tutorial: braided 'do I know I said I would post this hair tutorial yesterday, but obviously I'm a no good liar because today is not yesterday, it's today. This hairstyle is basically the same thing as milkmaid braids, only modified to up the volume and lessen the big part in the back. Pigtails or regular milkmaid braids make me look like I'm balding, as I have a wicked scar in the back of my head.
