Incredible Space Pics from ISS by NASA astronaut Wheelock Go Discovery! It was October 23, 2007 at 11:40am EST when I had my first ride to space on Discovery. She’s beautiful… just sad that this will be her last voyage. Looking forward to climbing aboard the flight deck when Discovery arrives at the Space Station in November. (9-23-2010). Compact Cameras for Fashion Bloggers - IFB - Independent Fashion Bloggers Image by Geishaboy500 In my last post I covered three tech tips for blog photos and I noticed that I received a great many comments regarding the use of cameras other than DSLRs. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: in this day and age you simply do not need a DSLR to take great images, especially not if you only intend to post your images online. In the last few years the compact camera market has exploded; where once great image quality and a full range of camera functions were reserved for top of the line DSLRs, this is no longer the case. It’s one thing if you’re going to be making 50” prints or if you’re going to be shooting a great deal of HD video, but most fashion bloggers require only a small camera that is easy to carry and can still take great pictures to post online.

Scientists Discover The Oldest, Largest Body Of Water In Existence Scientists have found the biggest and oldest reservoir of water ever--so large and so old, it’s almost impossible to describe. The water is out in space, a place we used to think of as desolate and desert dry, but it's turning out to be pretty lush. Researchers found a lake of water so large that it could provide each person on Earth an entire planet’s worth of water--20,000 times over. Yes, so much water out there in space that it could supply each one of us all the water on Earth--Niagara Falls, the Pacific Ocean, the polar ice caps, the puddle in the bottom of the canoe you forgot to flip over--20,000 times over.

How Far Away is the Sun? Another Visualization. - Brad BlogSpeed Alright, this one’s a doozy. After the reasonable popularity of last week’s scale picture that illustrated the distance between the Earth and the Moon, I just had to take things to the next logical level. Today I’ve reduced the scale, and increased the image size dramatically, to represent one astronomical unit (AU), or the distance between the earth and the Sun.* So allow me to just say ahead of time that I apologize if this post breaks anyone’s computer.

Dazzling Fireflies Display The magic of fireflies caught by long exposure photographs taken in Japan. As the original source is the Japanese language website Digital Photo Blog we don’t have a lot of information about the photographers, but it seems that these photos were taken in the rainy months of June and July in Maniwa, Japan in recent years - the most recent photos are dated 2011, the earliest 2008. We’ve found some information – and more prosaic photos – about Japanese fireflies at the Tokyo Hotaru website; hotaru is the Japanese word for fireflies. There is a nice short article on the significance of hotaru in Japanese society here and you’ll find a second enchanting photo gallery of firefly photos by Rei Ohara here. Enjoy the inspiration!
