Tech Time Warp of the Week: The Commodore-64, 1983

It wasn’t the Macintosh. Or the Apple II. Or the IBM PC. It was the Commodore-64, the computer-disguised-as-a-keyboard that made its debut in 1982. According to the late Jack Tramiel — the man who founded Commodore International — the company was selling nearly a half million C64s a month when he was forced out of the operation in 1984, and by the time the machine finally gave up the ghost a decade later, he estimated, somewhere between 22 million and 30 million Commodores had found their way into the world.

10 Upcoming Technology That May Change The World

Smartphones, cloud computing, multi-touch tablets, these are all innovations that revolutionized the way we live and work. However, believe it or not, we are just getting started. Technology will get even better. In the future, we could live like how people in science fiction movies did. (Image Source: YouTube) Project Glass: One day... Google Glass Shows Off New Interface, Impressive Functionality, Elite Availability. When Google released their original concept video for Project Glass last April, it seemed like the company was still struggling to dream up an interface that wasn't, at its core, a smartphone screen for your eyeballs.

Google Glass Shows Off New Interface, Impressive Functionality, Elite Availability

There would be pop-up notifications for text messages, calendar reminders, and weather alerts; there would be applications, like Maps, that would show up in front of you as a large, mostly opaque, smartphone-screen-shaped window; there would be a Siri-like voice command function. In short, Project Glass seemed poised to produce a more convenient version of something that already existed. But that was last April. Today, Google released a demo video showing off the new Glass interface--an interface that, from the looks of it, feels like something new: As PCWorld points out, the new video also demonstrates some previously unknown functionality, like an advanced and fully integrated voice command system, a translator, Google image search, and Google Now integration.

Will School Printers Soon Be A Thing Of The Past? The Importance Of The Evolution Of Education 6.93K Views 0 Likes Over the past century, the modes of both imparting and receiving education have undergone a paradigm shift.

The evolution of education has become more important than ever. 3D-tulostus on jo kuluttajien ulottuvilla. 10 Ways 3D Printing Can Be Used In Education [Infographic] How 3D Printing Works 3D printing sounds like something from science fiction, but the process is similar to that of CNC machining, where billets are cut into specific shapes and products.

But rather than cutting, it prints. A 3D printer works by “printing” objects–but instead of using ink, it uses more substantive materials–plastics, metal, rubber, and the like. It scans an object–or takes an existing scan of an object–and slices it into layers it can then convert into a physical object. Maailman ensimmäinen 3D-tulostettu lelu on fyysiseksi tullut avatar.

View Photo Gallery In 2012, robotic technology made some huge leaps forward. We put the world's most sophisticated planetary rover on Mars using a daring--and precise--robotic delivery system. We launched marine robots capable of taking on hurricanes and rebuilding damaged coral reefs. We saw four-legged robots set new land speed records, and winged, autonomous robots strut their potentially lethal stuff on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

We see this kind of improvement in robotic capabilities each year--indicative of just how much momentum the robotics revolution has gained in the opening stretch of the 21st century. Click to launch the photo gallery.
