The most important information you will ever read about Running Form: Passive vs. Active. ’ve been hanging onto this post for a while now, as I wrote most of it a couple months ago for a coaching friend. It seemed like a relevent topic and a good enough time to post it here for the rest of you. It might seem like I’m being overly dramatic with the title, but the following two concepts are critical for understanding running form, or even human movement in general.

With the rise in popularity of running form and the increase in running form guru’s that accompanies that, I it was a good time to share what I feel is the most important lesson. Why? What happens Active versus PassiveThe difference between Static movements and Dynamic movements. What’s so important about these concepts? Passive vs. The concept is relatively easy, but sometimes difficult to grasp with all the scientific type stuff, so I’ll try and keep it to a minimum. Passively is a little more complex. If we look at the various passive mechanisms we have in our body, you’ll see things like the stretch reflex. Straight Razor Place Forums. Alkaline Ionized Water Filters | The Best Water Ionization. The Runner’s Body as a System: Creating More Holistic Training.

While running, your body is orchestrating a complex symphony of muscle movements that help you absorb shock, transfer energy, and stay upright. The coordination to run efficiently is astounding. Your left leg muscles must work in harmony with your core muscles to keep you balanced. This is happening while your right arm is swinging forward and your left leg is in the swing phase of your stride. And for the most part, this all happens without you thinking too much about it. Most runners only start to think about their muscles when something breaks down. As soon as an injury pops up – a sharp knee pain or an inflamed achilles – they rush to apply ice, rest for a few days, and pop some Advil. It’s too bad this strategy rarely fixes the cause of the injury.

In fact, runners have no idea why they’re injured. “Can core fix my shin splints?” You can’t stretch your way to a pain-free IT band or ignore your plantar fasciitis for months and expect the pain to disappear. The pH scale is from 0 - 14 Human blood pH should be slightly alkaline ( 7.35 - 7.45 ).

Below or above this range means symptoms and disease. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. A pH below 7.0 is acidic. An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. An acidic balance will: decrease the body's ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it's ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it's ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

The reason acidosis is more common in our society is mostly due to the typical American diet, which is far too high in acid producing animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, and far too low in alkaline producing foods like fresh vegetables. Have you heard of Kombucha, the beverage the ancient Chinese called the “Immortal Health Elixir?”

It’s been around for more than 2,000 years and has a rich anecdotal history of health benefits like preventing and fighting cancer, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases. Made from sweetened tea that’s been fermented by a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (a SCOBY, a.k.a. “mother” because of its ability to reproduce, or “mushroom” because of its appearance), Kombucha didn’t gain prominence in the West until recently. In the first half of the 20th century, extensive scientific research was done on Kombucha’s health benefits in Russia and Germany, mostly because of a push to find a cure for rising cancer rates.

German scientists picked up on this research and continued it in their own direction. Regardless of the “lack” of scientific evidence, the fact remains that this beverage has 2,000 plus years of tradition behind it and an ardent and addicted following.
