Urban Information Design.

Showing image 5 of 44 Located at the junction of three distinct forms of development – rural, suburban, and industrial – the challenge of developing the Cherpines site is to retain something of all three while creating something new. Rather than developing the site along standard zoning guidelines, with buffers promoting physical and social segregation, we propose a more integrated gradient of building sizes in order to promote a smoother programmatic transition from the industrial area of Ziplo to the low density housing and farming communities. This simple gesture has several benefits. It distributes a large variation of housing types across the site. It encourages a diversity and mix of inhabitants and user groups that leads to a more socially sustainable community.

And finally it allocates a finer grain of buildings and open spaces near the river. DK Club by Ismini Karali. DK Club is the new project of Interior Architect – Creative Director, Ismini Karali, a small but outstanding place at the Old Port of Chania, Crete, Greeece. It is part of a renown chain of stores of two successful, local entrepreneurs: Kyriakos Papasifakis – George Kanatakis. Housed in an old shipyard, the building is very strange, one oblong shaped tunnel with two entrances, but with a great view at the old harbor.

The aim of the Designer, was primarily to use the existing architectural form & the historical traces of time upon the building, but given through a new look, that could create the appropriate environment for a modern place of entertainment. The use of light was of great importance and the place really transformed from an old shipyard to a lively hot spot of the town. photo: blog.naver.com.

Dover, Kohl & Partners Blog: Lisboa (Lisbon) The framework of Lisbon’s urban structure is evident from the vantage point of the Castelo São Jorge, the Moorish Castle that caps the hill shared with the Alfama District. The cascade of rooftops ends at the banks of the Tagus River, wide and calm as it meets the Atlantic. The Bridge named “25th of April” is reflected in the Tagus; its silhouette is similar to San Fransisco’s Golden Gate, but it is more slender and miniature. The diagram of the city is the opposite of the two other Iberian capitals, Madrid and Barcelona. Both of those cities have an organic and medieval core surrounded by the regular blocks of their “eixample” (Catalán) or “ensanche” (Spanish). Lisbon’s core is a rational grid, though it lacks the chamfers of the other cities, and is surrounded by the organic fabric of both older and newer districts.

We try to imagine the scene in November 1755 when one of the strongest earthquakes to have been felt in Europe leveled the lower city, “Cidade Baixa.” 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
