Manhattan Market Tote - Crochet Pattern. With the arrival of spring, I just can’t wait to browse around the farmers’ markets and simply be OUTSIDE! This crochet bag is what I’ve made (while it was snowing) with dreams of toting it around in the warmer months. I wanted to make it fairly sturdy, and didn’t want overly large holes for things to fall through. This bag has a strong bottom and a hefty handle. I’m thinking that I can even use it as a book bag, which I desperately needed the last time I took my girl to the library. I hadn't shopped for yarn in a while since I put myself on a yarn freeze until I use up some of my stash......but I made an exception of course. Hobby Lobby has a few colorways of what they call "Print" yarn. It's variegated but it flows better than most variegated I have worked with and I usually love the results of it so much more. I saw a new color way called Sunrise Sky. I was drawn to it because well it reminded me OKC Thunder Colors! I just love the combination of Orange and Blue. I didn't know what I was going to make with it, but I was going to make use of it right away. I really wanted to design something other than a hat or scarf since it's spring. When I think spring I think farmers markets so I decided to make a big ole bag!

I had the idea to make a bag in the same style as the other market bag patterns I have made, but instead of making all one solid color I wanted to use 2 colors, one solid and one multicolor. I typically make my market bags starting with rounds of double crochet to make the base nice and sturdy. Then I do a patterned section, usually with a more open stitch. And then I finished it off with a few rounds of single crochet around the top to finish it off and make the handles. To make this bag I used that same formula, but I used the 2 different colors of yarn, the solid on the top and bottom sections, and the multicolor to make the center, patterned section.
