We chose these songs and poems because the way the lyrics are expressed says a lot about our society; through this music, we can get a sense of what happens in our society in relation to women, such as sexual abuse and transphobic abuse; it was a way of saying that even when women and LGBTQ+ people ask for help, guilt falls on us, guilt falls on the victim; we should have avoided it, because we were just trying to feel comfortable.
Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise" is a highly powerful work of art; the way it hits on pertinent and crucial things that women have had to go through and overcome is what makes this poem so emotional and strong in terms of women's rights.
