Sometimes I weary of social media lists that are simply popularity contests or a cheap way to promote some start-up or PR agency. And usually the same people are on these lists over and over. There are so many other deserving voices out there. So, with the help of some friends, I decided to create a different kind of list. I wanted to recognize people in a way that was not derived from who could get out the vote or who was cozy with a corporate sponsor. I wanted to create a list that would celebrate amazing people who do not normally show up on lists.

I asked some of the people who are regulars on these “best of” lists to recommend a few people who they believe are on the rise. Who are the unknown stars who will be rocking the social media conferences two or three years from now? If you’re on this list, I hope you feel good about being recognized by some of the leaders in the field. Here is our list of people on the move, in alphabetical order. 70 rising social media stars M. 8 Surprises From Social Media Examiner’s 2014 Marketing Industry Report. When asked to pick only one social media platform, 54% of the marketers surveyed selected Facebook. Second place went to LinkedIn at only 17%. Why was this surprising to me? Original written content > original visual assets. Because, if you work in the social media marketing community, you know that there is a perpetual call to make posts visually appealing and coercive.

Uh, really? Social Media Year in Review: 13 Must-Know Statistics from 2013 (Infographic) Much has changed over the last year in social media. Things like the rise of Snapchat, the acquisition of Tumblr by Yahoo, the growing importance of mobile-first social networks like WeChat and Vine, the launch of LinkedIn's widely successful Influencer program and more, further complicate the digital landscape for marketers. According to a report by Social Media Examiner, 86 percent of marketers indicate that social media is important for their business, up from 83 percent in 2012. It's fairly obvious that social media will continue to have a significant impact on the way marketers and business owners continue to communicate with consumers on a daily basis. Marketers should give attention to which social platforms help them reach their goals with relevant audiences, whether that's generating sales or greater visibility.

Source: Supplied THE social news website Reddit is in damage control after it was discovered that the site’s moderators have been censoring any posts that include popular terms such as “NSA,” “Snowden” and “Bitcoin”.

Users discovered the glitch when they tried to submit stories that mentioned any of these words or a long list of others in the /r/technology thread which is followed by around five million Reddit users. The story would be removed without notification within minutes of it appearing on the site. Reddit admitted to the BBC that the reason for the disappearing posts was due to moderators of the section who placed a filter which automatically deleted posts with the banned words because they didn’t want to deal with the amount of stories submitted on the controversial topics.

Because of this, /r/technology has been downgraded which means it will no longer be a default subreddit and posts won’t appear on the site’s homepage. 3 Social Media Marketing Plans for Every Startup Budget.
