http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Archive The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library with the stated mission of "universal access to all knowledge." [ 2 ] [ 3 ] To overcome the challenge of selection when collecting the internet, Internet Archive subscribes to the theory of bulk archiving in which it tries to archive as much of the public web as possible. [ 4 ] The amount of data that the Internet Archive collects is massive and has grown quickly. In 2005, 40 billion webpages were archived with a total collection amonted to more than a petabyte of data. [ 5 ] It provides permanent storage of and free public access to collections of digitized materials, including websites, music, moving images, and nearly three million public-domain books; as of October 2012 it held over 10 petabytes in cultural material. [ 6 ] The Internet Archive allows the public to upload and download digital material to its data cluster, and provides unrestricted online access to that material at no cost.
