Cool Dad Raising Daughter On Media That Will Put Her Entirely Out Of Touch With Her Generation. RENTON, WA—Local man Paul Campbell confirmed Saturday he was raising his daughter Emma on a variety of media carefully selected to help her cultivate an appreciation for artistic quality, a move that will reportedly put the 12-year-old girl hopelessly out of touch with her generation. Perusing his music and film collections and showing reporters distinctive, well-regarded works that will thoroughly alienate Emma from her sixth-grade classmates, Campbell said he wanted to make sure his daughter enjoyed the benefits of a cultural education he never received at her age. "Back then, I listened to junk like Journey and watched crappy movies like Iron Eagle," the 41-year-old said in reference to popular music and films of the 1980s that allowed him to have something to talk about with friends.

"I wish my own dad had turned me on to the good stuff, so I wouldn't have had to wait until I was in my 20s before I started digging anything halfway decent. " UK Ancestry Maps (ancestrymaps) Egyptian pyramids found by infra-red satellite images. Seventeen lost pyramids are among the buildings identified in a new satellite survey of Egypt. More than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements were also revealed by looking at infra-red images which show up underground buildings. Initial excavations have already confirmed some of the findings, including two suspected pyramids. The work has been pioneered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham by US Egyptologist Dr Sarah Parcak. She says she was amazed at how much she and her team has found. "We were very intensely doing this research for over a year.

"To excavate a pyramid is the dream of every archaeologist," she said. The team analysed images from satellites orbiting 700km above the earth, equipped with cameras so powerful they can pin-point objects less than 1m in diameter on the earth's surface. Infra-red imaging was used to highlight different materials under the surface. Sirius Two of the principal fathers of technocluture, electronic media activist Jon Lebkowsky and cyber-theoretician R.U. Sirius, have known each other almost from the virtual beginning. Lebkowsky, co-creator of the Austin-based subculture media system Fringeware, Inc., met the co-founder and editor of Mondo 2000 -- the now-defunct slick magazine that juxtaposed computer culture with drugs, sex, and graphic art -- back in the early days of the WELL (Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link), one of the first online communities.

The two independent thinkers together created the late online Mondo 2000 conference on the WELL, which Lebkowsky adds "had its 15 minutes as the white-hot, way-kool core of cyberculture. " Though Sirius left Mondo 2000 shortly before its collapse in 1995, he remains a ubiquitous Internet presence -- a search for his name turns up 30,000 matches at URLs all over the world. -- Jen Scoville n R.U. I'm leaving something out. JL: That's a good question. Hidden in a cave: First ever portrait of Jesus found in 1 of 70 ancient books? By Nick Pryer for The Mail on Sunday Created: 18:44 BST, 2 April 2011 The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair.

After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figure’s brow as a crown of thorns. The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices – booklets – found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts. If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him. Discovery: The impression on this booklet cover shows what could be the earliest image of Christ Astonishingly, one of the booklets appears to bear the words ‘Saviour of Israel’ – one of the few phrases so far translated.

Saida’s motives are complex. Swallowed by the Sea. Cadiz : The Scuttlefish. (Artist’s depiction) A U.S. -led research team believes that they may have located the lost city of Atlantis and uncovered one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Using philosopher Plato’s 2,600-year-old written accounts of the city having been situated on the Straits of Gibraltar, (known then as the Pillars of Hercules) the team inspected satellite images that revealed what appears to be the legendary concentric rings of Atlantis submersed in the Dona Ana Park marshlands north of Cadiz, Spain. (A computer-generated map of the research findings) According to Plato’s Dialogues, the city disappeared into the sea between a single day and night. The Iberian peninsula is no stranger to tsunamis though. Previously, it was believed that Atlantis may have been located around Italy or Greece on the islands of Sardinia, Cyprus or Santorini.

“Finding Atlantis,” which documents the quest to find Atlantis will re-air on Sunday, March 20th on the National Geographic Channel. *via msnbc* Center for an Informed America.
