The “Droste effect” is when images recursively include themselves. The name comes from Droste brand cocoa powder, which was sold in 1904 in a box that showed a nurse carrying the same box which, in turn, showed the nurse carrying the box, and so on. The simplest form is to use a scale and transform on an image to place an exact copy within it, and then repeat. Take a look at this Demonstration using the original Droste box artwork. But much more interesting results can be achieved when you get complex analysis involved. M.C. Blog : Droste Effect with Mathematica

Construal level theory (CLT) is a theory in social psychology that describes the relation between psychological distance and the extent to which people's thinking (e.g., about objects and events) is abstract or concrete. [ 1 ] The general idea is that the more distant an object is from the individual the more abstract it will be thought of, while the opposite relation between closeness and concreteness is true as well. In CLT, psychological distance is defined on several dimensions - temporal , spatial , social and hypothetical distance being considered most important, [ 2 ] though there is some debate among social psychologists about further dimensions like informational, experiential or affective distance. You know you're bored when you start shading in the squares of your notebook. Apparently it's a habit that could be helping you to concentrate. In a neat little experiment, Jackie Andrade asked forty participants to listen to a monotone two and a half minute phone message about arrangements for a party. They were told the message would be dull, that there was no need to memorise it, but that they should write down the names of the people who would be able to attend the party. What does a doodle do? It boosts your memory and concentration
