Craft Snob. Ucreate. ISLY | I Still Love You » Art, Sewing, Design, Bookbinding, Photography, Crafts. How to make Jewelry for Everyone. The Zen of Making. Knitting Crochet Sewing Crafts Patterns and Ideas! For this Kid's Fair Isle Vest I used a technique credited to a tiny island north of Scotland (aka Fair Isle) and a stitch pattern from another tiny island, this one west of Estonia (Muhu). In times and places where, by logic, function should have ruled sweater design, instead, knitters seemed to have taken sheer joy in form. It seems to me that, when they cast on for a new sweater, the women from these cold, isolated island places threw all of life's hardships and frustrations right out the window. Such knitting ingenuity from anywhere, anytime is awe-inspiring, and the creation of this vest was a wonderful opportunity to get inside the minds of the incredible knitting women who came before us. Armed with the beautiful book, Designs and Patterns from Muhu Island, I used a pared-down palette and design to bring a modern sensibility to this extraordinary traditional stitch pattern.

The Kid's Fair Isle Vest is a fun challenge and also a truly satisfying trip into knitting history. Design*Sponge » diy projects. Most favorited all-time. Tutorials. D.I.Y. – HonestlyWTF. (+our wedding music) If you’ve been following my blog, you know how I made 60 of these painted frames with song lyrics for our wedding decorations /favors… Well, a lot of wedding guests loved them and took one home, but we had a ton left at the end of the night, which we boxed back up and took home with us… So we now have 30 of them hanging on our big white living room wall!

Yay!! There are several duplicate lyrics, some of which I already changed out to engagement photos, but once we get our wedding photos I’ll switch out some more lyrics with photos (but just a few, because we love the look of the lyrics!) : So, hey, you want to know how to make these yourself? I made 2 different types of painted frames: textured frames that were just plain spray painted, and smooth(ish) frames that were painted with lace used as stencils. I did them in batches of 6-10 at a time – sprayed 1 coat over them all, then went back with a 2nd coat over them all. For the lace stenciled frames, there are a couple extra steps. Tricks + Treats: Graphic Soaps by Sarah Rhodes. Hi, It's Sarah from Team Rhodes Weddings! I am going to share a simple soap DIY with you this morning. Enjoy! Shopping list: - clear glycerin (found at craft stores) or you can recycle clear soaps of your own.- essential oils for lovely smelling soaps- a small milk carton- tracing paper, book pages, transparency paper, any kind of paper, or pretty fabric squares.

Have your artwork to put in soaps ready before you start! Definitely use permanent pens to avoid ink bleeding. Measure the bottom of your milk carton, and cut squares slightly smaller than your measurement - you don't want paper sticking out of your soap. :) Over low heat, melt your glycerin in a pot on your stove. Add your oils! Once all the glycerin is melted, pour it into your milk carton. Put the whole carton in your freezer for quick setting! Once you're done with all of them, and they're all solid, then tear off the carton around the bars. Thanks, Sarah! Windowsill Sprouting my way through the Winter. My orchids are dark speckled and bruised from the cold. The flowery Lantana shrubs are like coarse twine unraveled in a pile on the ground.

The tall ornamental grasses, which I love for their swaying grace, stand in stiff bunches like little scarecrows scattered across the lawn. My herbs…oh, let’s not even go there (I think thyme and cilantro are barely holding on). Then there’s the pile of dead and crispy Christmas trees strewn around the fire pit. We like to collect the discarded trees at the end of the season and use them for firewood throughout the winter, but right now, as I look out across the pathetic winter landscape of our backyard, they only add to the overall state of things. Brown. My windowsill, on the other hand, is more alive than ever- with lentil sprouts galore!

Tricking yourself into thinking its springtime is one way of looking at it, but sprouting lentils is also a great way to add a super fresh, nutrient packed component to a meal or salad. 13 sites to get your creative juices flowing | dreambeaker. Make It and Love It. Paisley Tee for Me. Yes, I'm gracing you with a awkward lovely self-photo today. I used the timer on my camera and got some excercise doing it. Anyhow, it's the t-shirt you're supposed to be looking at. Yup. I made this little paisley tee for me and it was a piece of cake. (Chocolate with chocolate frosting, if I could have my pick.) Here are the supplies I used. I started by turning my shirt so I could wrap the design around the side. I painted my fabric paint onto the stamp. I stamped them wherever my little heart desired. I even stamped a little green over some of the black ones just to add a little more interest.

I think the shirt has a bit of a Roxy feel to it. Tomorrow is Feature Friday and I'll be doing another round of "You Roared," so if you have something to show please make sure you've added it to the flickr group or e-mailed a link to me. J Crew Knock-off Tee. I saw this cute little shirt the other day on JCrew. I thought I'd give it a shot. It turned out a bit different, but here's my attempt. 1) I bought 2 t-shirts for $4 each.

One to wear and one for the extra matching fabric. I think these embellished t-shirts usually look best tone on tone. 2) I cut off the hemmed sleeves and the collar, to give it more of a raw look. 3) I cut some strips out of the extra shirt. 4) I sewed them on the shirt like this. See how I moved up the shirt doing the same? Now it's time to add the bow. 5) I sewed on the two hangy-down parts of the bow. Ta-dah! It was raining outside, so I couldn't get the lens to focus on me while using the timer - just the rain. AND I couldn't get far enough away from myself to get a good self-photo. I guess it's time to start giving Rex some photography lessons. Thanks for stopping by. PS - Brittany, I need your e-mail address to answer your question about the rip. I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar. The Idea Room: How to Make Leaf Skeletons.

I wanted to share with you a project from one of my readers who shares with us how to make leaf skeletons. I LOVE this! I have several leafs in various forms displayed in my home and knew I needed to make some of her leaf skeletons to add to my decor. I love how a pattern of leaves can enhance the beauty in your home. So I asked Heather if she would mind sharing her project with you. I have spent hours and tried various ways of making these. You need washing soda, not baking soda! Gather your leaves. Washing soda is a strong base so you may want to wear gloves when handling the leaves.

You will add 3/4 cup of washing soda and 4 cups of water to your pot of leaves. Keep going, you will need to add more water so your pan doesn’t dry out. When 1.75 hours are up fill a glass baking dish with cool water. I carefully removed them and rinsed with water and added clean water to the pan. If you’re still with me, this is what I ended up with… I have a maple leaf which turned out not so well. WELL WORN: Faux Real: Luxe Snow Globes. Flamingo Toes » Sewing, Crafts, and Silliness.
