Druckversion - A Deity Goes into Retirement: Tibetans Face Uncertainty in Post-Dalai Lama Era - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/a-deity-goes-into-retirement-tibetans-face-uncertainty-in-post-dalai-lama-era-a-782329.html The Dalai Lama has officially retired from politics, claiming he wants to live as a "simple monk." It's a watershed moment for Tibet, amid fears of Chinese meddling and controversy over the new generation of leaders.
The Dalai Lama, who is in Washington, D.C., for a ten day event, has written : “I have come to the conclusion that whether or not a person is a religious believer does not matter much. Far more important is that they be a good human being.”. . . “That is why I sometimes say that religion is something we can perhaps do without.”It seems many in the West agree with the spiritual leader, as millions report that they incorporate Buddhist practices such as meditation or mindfulness into their own spiritual activities without necessarily adopting Buddhism as their religion.Does religion aid or hinder the spiritual journey?

Here are the artists of the above piece as they performed on the India’s Got Talent program last year. It’s in Hindi but you’ll catch on. They’ve been practicing this for about 15 years or so.

Mind Deep

Learn from a reputable teacher. Sit every day for 30 minutes at least, and go on a long silent retreat at least once a year. Do not follow someone else's script.
I'm stuck here at a Days Inn in Wytheville, Virginia after my alternator belt broke just outside of Bland, Virginia (yes, it's a real place) on the way down to Durham, North Carolina to clear out a storage space I rent down there.

HARDCORE ZEN

The following video took place at the Buddhist Geeks Conference in 2011, and was part of a series of live talks, each 20 minutes in length. Talk Description: The neuroscience of meditation can help us understand how practice shapes the mind, and offers fresh insight into concepts like mindfulness and suffering.
