2012 April 2 - Tungurahua Erupts. Pictured above, molten rock so hot it glows visibly pours down the sides of the 5,000-meter high Tungurahua, while a cloud of dark ash is seen being ejected toward the left. Wispy white clouds flow around the lava-lit peak, while a star-lit sky shines in the distance. The Most Astounding Images Of Space. Astounding Images Of Space: Orion Nebula In 2006, the Hubble Space Telescope captured this incredibly intricate image of the Orion Nebula.

The Most Astounding Images Of Space

This nebula is a celestial wonder just south of Orion’s Belt and holds the title of the most photographed feature of the night sky. What’s more, the Orion Nebula is visible to the naked eye. It’s helpful, too: the Orion Nebula has aided astronomers in studying star and planetary systems. Eskimo Nebula The Eskimo Nebula was discovered by British astronomer William Herschel in 1787 and derives its name from its unusual shape: a cute Eskimo’s face.

15 Beautiful & Mystical Space Photos

On its 100,000th orbit of planet Earth, the Hubble Space Telescope peered into a small portion of the Tarantula Nebula near the star cluster NGC 2074, unveiling its stellar nursery. The region is a firestorm of raw stellar creation, triggered perhaps by a nearby supernova. 3. Wolf-Rayet Star The massive star a Wolf-Rayet star, is the bright blue one near the center of the nebula. 4. Magnificent spiral galaxy NGC 4565 is likely similar to our own spiral galaxy, but viewed edge-on from far away.
