A Diagram Of 21st Century Pedagogy - The modern learner has to sift through a lot of information. That means higher level thinking skills like analysis and evaluation are necessary just to reduce all the noise and establish the credibility of information. There is also the matter of utility. Evaluating information depends as much on context and circumstance as it does the nature of the data itself. The essay full of fluff may distill quite nicely down to a 140 character tweet. A trivial fact about governments may appear useless in a research paper on the 3 branches of government, but could find utility in a project-based learning artifact on the evolution of government systems worldwide. Context matters, and the diagram from edorigami below captures this, though not from the perspective of the student and content knowledge, but the teacher and various pedagogical components themselves, including Higher-Order Thinking Skills, Peer Collaboration, and Media Fluency.

Cool Graphic on Learning in The 21st Century. As I was checking the backlinks to Educational Technology and Mobile Learning I came across this resource from ISDIPED. The resource is basically a syllabus somebody designed for teaching about Media Selection. It really impresses me how well-structured and properly referenced it is. More specifically I liked the table featuring the difference between traditional learning and 21st century learning; something I have talked about in depth in my 21st Century Skills Teachers should Have post. I am sharing it with you below together with the quotation I came across in that PDF. Just to let you know , I am working now on an e-Book on The 21st Century Learning which I will share with my readers here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning once it is ready.
PSFK Future of Work Report 2013. How Many Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom? Remember the good old days of reading textbooks in school and taking notes from a chalkboard? Yeah, neither do we. PBS Learning Media, in preparation for Digital Learning Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6, conducted a national survey of pre-K to 12th grade teachers to find out how many incorporate technology into their day-to-day classroom activities. According to a press release, close to 74% of all teachers surveyed said they use digital resources — tablets, computers — to expand and reinforce on content in their classrooms. Among the other highlights: 69% of those surveyed said educational technology helps them “do much more than ever before” for their students, with the most commonly used resources being online lesson plans, interactive web games and online articles. More than one-third said they use a tablet or e-reader in their classrooms — up from 20% last year.

Evernote. 2013. 21st Century Learning is Not A Program. By William Washington, Ed.D. Scholar, Walden University Perhaps the biggest misconception that one can have about 21st century learning is to think of it as a single reform program. 21st century learning is not a singular “thing” that can be plugged into an existing school environment and used as an easy upgrade to improve existing practice. Learning that teaches children how to think is a process with deep philosophical underpinnings and embraces new findings about how people teach, learn, and get motivated. This challenges educational organizations to incorporate new thinking into the ways in which we view the function and purpose of formal education; it implores us to move beyond draconian practices that are rooted in 19th century assumptions about learning.
Premise of 21st Century Education The premise of 21st century education is very important. Many people tend to associate 21st century learning with digital technology. “Gist” is Not a Substitute for Comprehensive Understanding.

Скайп на уроке. Welcome to My Resource Cloud. How to work a 40 hour week as a teacher. A 40 hour week for a teacher is almost unheard of. The growing number of teacher-bashers out there have somehow gotten the idea that we work far fewer hours that. And of course, anyone who’s ever worked in the field knows that the time spent at school combined with the time spent on paperwork at home often averages out to 50-70 hours a week…or more. I believe there’s a healthy balance between the perception of teachers working only from 9-3 and the unfortunate reality of them working 7-7. As a classroom teacher, my goal in finding a work-life balance was to dedicate 40 hours a week to my job. I succeeded about 90% of the time. So that means I don’t have a fool-proof system that will guarantee you’ll leave the school parking lot before sundown every night. 1) Replace worksheets with hands-on activities.
