50 Inspiring Examples of Emotional Portrait Photography

Photography involves expressions, inspirations and emotions all captured in one fine click of the camera. For good photography, camera, set and make-over is secondary. It is based on the aesthetics present in the person doing it. That is the reason it is said when it comes to photography, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the camera-holder”. In today’s post we are offering some very emotional portraits that might have not been seen before or perhaps are well hidden under the pile of Internet junk.

Where Science, Art and Photography Intersect (25 photos)

Inspired by children's books of science experiments, he photographs everyday objects (like matches, pens and mirrors) in ways we've never imagined, often using multiple exposures to tell the story. For example, in Fifteen Hours, the last photo in this set, Charland used 15 exposures to show how the flame of a dinner candle beautifully burns down. In still others, like in Cube with Rule and Penlight, Caleb Charland sits in pitch black darkness and, with a penlight in his hand, traces the shape of a cube along a ruler. Though at first glance, you think you're just looking at a box, you soon notice that the mysterious shadows are Charland's hands. I caught up with Charland to ask him a few questions about his work.

The beauty of it all is that there's an honesty to Charland's work. Cube with Ruler and Penlight Arcs with Arms and Candles Footprints with Matches Atomic Model. Greys. Audrey Kawasaki's Creative Workspace (11 pics)

That's right. This dream-like picture shows each phase of the sun over Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge taken during half a year. The image was captured on a pin-hole camera made from an empty soda can with a 0.25mm aperture and a single sheet of photographic paper. Photographer Justin Quinnell strapped the camera to a telephone pole overlooking the Gorge, where it was left between December 19, 2007 and June 21, 2008––the Winter and Summer solstices. 'Solargraph' shows six months of the sun's luminescent trails and its subtle change of course caused by the earth's movement in orbit. Quinnell, a renowned pin-hole camera artist, says the photograph took on a personal resonance after his father passed away on April 13, halfway through the exposure.
