New research reveals 'huge inequalities' in life chances - Home News - UK

The data showed that young people in Erdington, Birmingham, were more than three times as likely to be unemployed as youngsters in South Kensington, London. Teenagers in Harrogate were seven times as likely to go to an elite university than their counterparts in Bradford, just 20 miles away, said the report, published ahead of new unemployment figures today. Annika Small, chief executive of the Nominet Trust, said: "The powerful data proves what we've known for a long time - the postcode lottery is not a myth but in fact a harsh and very bleak reality for Britain's young people. "We'd urge policy makers, youth workers and other professionals working with young people to take note of the fact that our current system is failing today's youth, and that a fresh approach is required.

" "With unemployment high, it's essential that this scheme delivers for jobseekers, employers and the taxpayer. Harrogate sees a fall in number unemployed. The number of people unemployed fell from 1654 to 1389 and youth unemployment fell from 385 to 280 from February to June.

Nationally the number of people out of work fell by 65,000 to 2.58 million. Andrew Jones, the Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough, welcomed today’s news that Harrogate district’s unemployment and youth unemployment figures – as measured by the number of unemployment benefit claimants in Harrogate and Knaresborough – showed a fall in June for the fourth consecutive month. Andrew Jones MP says this is great news and shows that things are really looking up for our local economy.

Andrew Jones MP said: Harrogate’s unemployment figures are less than a third of the regional average and it is good to see they’re continuing to fall. This means over 250 people who were unemployed in February now have a job, are now earning a wage and can better support themselves and their families. This is good news for them and good news for the local economy. North Yorkshire celebrates outstanding A level exam results

Early figures from A-level results show schools recording outstanding A-level scores, despite the fact that nationally there has been a fall in top grades. While the full county-wide picture will not be known immediately, it is clear already that North Yorkshire has a good deal to celebrate. County Councillor Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Schools said: Once again we are looking at the highest standards and there is much in these achievements to be proud of.

We appear to be on course for another excellent set of results which is a tribute to our hard-working students. These early figures do show that North Yorkshire will exceed the North East regional average of just over 6 per cent per cent students reaching A* grades – awarded to students who achieve 90 per cent and above for their final A2 level papers. Copyright 2000 CDT All rights reserved The Basics Behind Efficient Staff Scheduling Introduction I am often asked the question, how do I start a brand new staff schedule?

Creating a staff schedule

It can be daunting to have the task of creating a brand new manning operation, budgeting for it, and presenting it to management. I have prepared this page to illustrate how to start. Specification I created a staff schedule for a call centre manned by 2 shifts Morning(7am-3pm) & Afternoon(1pm-9pm). Maths Part Example 1 We need to have some idea of how many staff we need to schedule, so do some rough, back of the envelope, calculations.

A few more examples of this type of problem are; Example 2 For 7 day 24 hr cover using 8 hr shifts which have 6 staff on early, 3 on evenings & 2 on nights, we have, early shift = 6 staff x 7 days = 42 shifts, evening shift = 3 staff x 7 days = 21 shifts, night shift = 2 staff x 7 days = 14 shifts. Variations from one week to the next. Method Using Example 1 Above 1. 2. 4. Weekends Off.
